What to do for brittle nails that break easily and don't grow well? - #54934

I have brittle nails. Very weak n break easily. They get split lines n crack very quick. They don't grow very much n if in case it grows theyget layers n getcracks because of which they break from center. I don't apply nail paints frequently. Pls advice on this.any cream oil is to be applied or any medicines required.

Because this has been persistent for >1 year and severe enough that nails crack from the center, it would be reasonable to check: -CBC -Serum ferritin (important) -Vitamin B12 -Vitamin D -Thyroid profile (TSH) -Zinc -----According to Ayurveda, brittle and cracking nails are usually related to aggravated Vata dosha and weakness of Asthi Dhatu (bone/nail tissue nutrition). Dryness in the body, stress, irregular diet, poor digestion, and nutritional deficiency can make nails weak and split easily. ------Diagnosis: Vata aggravation with Asthi Dhatu Kshaya leading to brittle and splitting nails. —Rx: 1) Aimil Amlycure DS Syrup – 2 tsp twice daily after meals. 2) Aimil Neeri Tablet – 1 tab twice daily after meals. 3) Aimil Lukoskin Ointment – local application over nails/cuticle area at night. 4) Coconut oil massage over nails daily. 5) tab trifla 1 tab at bed time ----Advice: Protein-rich nutritious diet. Include sesame, almonds, green vegetables, milk, ghee. –Avoid frequent detergent/chemical exposure and excessive wet work. Adequate sleep and stress reduction advised. —Review: After 4 weeks

●Olive Oil-Olive oil has wonderful moisturizing action because it contains linoleic acid. It keeps the nails hydrated and prevent them from getting dried. Adding some drops of olive oil in warm water and soaking the nails in the mixture is a wonderful way to have beautiful, shiny nails. ●Lemon-Lemon juice has bleaching property, which helps to remove the stains and make the nails beautiful. Lemon manicure is often recommended for this. 1-2 tsp of lemon juice is used to soak the nails. A mixture in prepared with vinegar and warm water. Then the nails are brushed with the mixture for a couple of minutes. You are bound to get amazing results. ●Butter-Butter is a smooth substance, which imparts moisturizing impact to the nails. It also provides a many number of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin E. Application of butter on the nails helps to make the nails look shiny, glossy and beautiful. ●Coconut Oil-Coconut oil contains lauric acid, healthy fats, caprylic acid and Vitamin E. All these nutrients aid in strengthening the cuticles of the nails, moisturizing the nails preventing the formation of the hangnails and getting rid of cuticle infections and other fungal diseases.

Brittle, splitting nails in Ayurveda are commonly related to Vata aggravation, poor nourishment of Asthi dhatu (bone tissue), weak digestion, stress, dehydration, or deficiency of iron/protein/minerals. Advice Keep nails moisturized daily with coconut oil, almond oil, or sesame oil. At night, gently massage nails and cuticles with ghee or castor oil to reduce dryness and cracking. Avoid excessive detergents, hot water exposure, and repeated nail trauma. Wear gloves during household work. Include nourishing foods: milk, ghee, sesame seeds, almonds, dates green vegetables, beetroot, amla, sprouts, moong adequate protein and water intake Avoid excessive fasting, junk food, very dry/spicy foods, and late nights. Helpful Ayurvedic Medicines Amla preparations – improves nail strength and nutrition Shatavari or Ashwagandha – for nourishment and tissue support Praval Pishti or Godanti – sometimes used when calcium/mineral deficiency is suspected If associated with hair fall, fatigue, or pallor, evaluation for iron deficiency or thyroid imbalance may be needed. Simple Home Remedy Mix: 1 tsp coconut oil + few drops lemon juice Apply on nails daily for 10–15 minutes.

Brittle nails with splitting and layering usually indicate weak nourishment, dryness, and sometimes deficiency related to digestion or skin health. Stress and irregular nutrition can also contribute. Keep nails short for some time and avoid excessive water, detergents, and harsh soaps on hands. Use gloves while washing utensils or cleaning. At home: Massage nails and cuticle area daily with coconut oil or almond oil at night. You can also apply a little ghee on nails before sleep for dryness. Diet: Include sesame seeds, soaked almonds, leafy vegetables, ghee, milk, and protein-rich foods regularly. Reduce junk and packaged food. Amla tablet – 1 tablet twice daily Gandhak rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after food Calcium + Vitamin D support (if not already taking) once daily This helps strengthen nails, improve growth, and reduce cracking gradually.
