•The use of Balant Kadha (a traditional Ayurvedic postnatal tonic) is typically intended to support recovery after childbirth. Regarding your specific concerns about hunger, weakness, and milk production, here is a breakdown of how it generally functions: 1. Effect on Hunger (Hungryness) Balant Kadha often contains ingredients like Dashmoola, Vidari, and various digestive stimulants. Instead of stopping hunger, it is designed to improve “Agni” (digestive fire). In the postpartum period, a mother’s digestion can be weak. By strengthening digestion, it helps you better absorb nutrients from your food, which can actually help stabilize appetite rather than causing sudden “hunger pangs” or stopping hunger entirely. 2. Effect on Weakness One of the primary purposes of this formulation is to reduce weakness (Debility). It acts as a rejuvenator (Rasayana) to help the body recover from the physical strain of delivery. It helps in tone-up of the uterine muscles and improves overall energy levels. If you are feeling increased weakness while taking it, it is important to ensure your caloric intake (fats, proteins, and carbohydrates) is sufficient to match your body’s recovery needs. 3. Effect on Milk Production (Lactation) Balant Kadha is generally Galactagogue-friendly, meaning it is formulated to support or maintain milk production, not stop it. Ingredients like Shatavari or Vidari (often found in these preparations) are well-known in Ayurveda to enhance the quality and quantity of breast milk. It helps in the purification of breast milk (Stanya Shodhana), making it easier for the baby to digest. Key Considerations •If you are experiencing a decrease in milk production or increased weakness, consider the following: •Hydration: Ensure you are drinking plenty of warm water, milk, or soups. •Nutrition: Traditional foods like Gond Ke Ladoo, Fenugreek (Methi), and Garden Cress seeds (Aliv) are vital alongside the Kadha. Rest: High stress or lack of sleep can negatively impact milk supply more significantly than the tonic itself. For more details contact me on personal consultation…
Balant Kada usually helps recovery after delivery, but in some women certain ingredients may reduce milk production or cause body weakness if it does not suit their body type. For now, stop the kada for a few days and observe. Take proper rest, increase fluids, and include milk, ghee, moong dal, dry fruits, and nutritious homemade food in diet. For improving milk production, frequent breastfeeding and adequate hydration are very important. At home, you can take jeera water or fennel (saunf) water once daily. Shatavari churna – 1 teaspoon with milk twice daily Lactare granules – 2 teaspoons twice daily with milk This should help improve strength and support milk production gradually.
