Kesar oil, also known as saffron oil, is indeed revered in Ayurveda for its potential benefits to enhance complexion and combat dryness. If you’re considering using kesar oil for your dry and flaky skin, here’s a practical approach based on Ayurvedic principles.
Begin by mixing a few drops of kesar oil with a carrier oil like almond oil. Almond oil is not only nourishing but also light, ensuring it doesn’t feel too heavy on your skin. This blend can be applied directly to your skin. Since you mentioned your skin’s sensitivity, do a patch test on a small area, like on the wrist, to ensure there’s no adverse reaction.
Apply this mixture once daily, preferably during the evening when your skin repairs itself naturally overnight. Gently massage the oil into your skin using upward strokes. This helps in better absorption and promotes improved circulation. Sometimes, people rush with creams, thinking more application is better, but in reality, consistency and gentle massaging are key.
Regarding using it with yogurt or honey, yes, both can be excellent additions. A natural mask combining yogurt, honey, and a few drops of kesar oil provides moisturizing and brightening effects. Use this mask once to twice a week. Yogurt offers gentle exfoliation, and honey is a natural humectant, so they work synergistically with kesar oil.
Yes, saffron oil is also recognized for helping reduce dark spots, but it may take few weeks to notice any noticeable difference. Patience is essential here; quick results may not stick around, so gradual improvement is usually better.
Although it’s tempting to mix it with other oils, avoid overwhelming the skin with too many ingredients at once. Choose one simple mix and stick to it for a few weeks before evaluating its impact.
Avoid using kesar oil during the day if you’re exposed frequently to sunlight, as oil and sunlight can occasionally lead to issues like tanning. Moisturize in the morning with a light, hydrating cream, if needed.
Lastly, listen to your skin. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of understanding and adapting to your skin’s cues. If irritation occurs, reduce usage to every other day or consult with a healthcare provider. Skin issues sometimes have an internal cause, so look at your diet too; opt for hydrating foods and avoid excessive caffeinated beverages that can further dehydrate your skin.
If the dryness persists or worsens, considering seeing a specialist, as individualized care might be necessary.
