how to make moringa powder at home - #23942

Emma

I am really curious about how to make moringa powder at home. I've read so much about its benefits and even started including moringa in my diet. Found some dried leaves at the local store, but they are super pricey! I have a garden where I've been growing moringa for a while now (even tho not that well, honestly), and want to try this out. Yesterday I harvested a bunch of leaves, and I'm just like, what do I do next? Do I need to wash them or just dry them right away? I hear people say that drying is super important for quality, and I'm worried about getting that part right. I left some leaves in the sun and others in the shade because I wasn't sure what’s best. And then, how do I actually grind them? I don’t have a fancy blender or anything, so just a regular coffee grinder would that work? Also, how long can the powder be stored? Like, do I need to keep it in the fridge or something? Any tips on how to make moringa powder at home, would be super appreciated!!! Thank you!!

Creating your own moringa powder at home is not that complicated, and it’s great you've already started growing moringa yourself. Before you jump into the drying process, yes, you should wash the leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt or pests. Gently rinse them under water, shaking off the excess moisture afterwards. Now, drying, indeed, is critical to ensure the leaves retain their nutritional profile. You mentioned using both sun and shade methods, and here's the insight: drying in the shade at a cool, dry place actually helps preserve the natural chlorophyll and other nutrients more effectively. You can spread the leaves out on a clean cloth or a mesh tray to allow air circulation, speed drying, and avoid mold. When they're brittle and crumble easily, they're ready to be powdered. Your coffee grinder will work just fine to grind the leaves, fully dry of course. Just make sure it’s completely clean to avoid any cross-flavors from other grindings. Grind them until you reach that fine, smooth consistency reminiscent of commercial powders. Storing the powder is simple—keep it in an airtight container. You don’t necessarily have to refrigerate, though that's an option if you like, keep away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Stored properly, it can last several months. The beauty of making your own moringa powder is that each step you take affects its quality, so patience and care pay off. Enjoy incorporating your homemade moringa into your diet, whether in smoothies or sprinkled over meals! Do consider any doshic imbalances as moringa can be potent and might not be suitable for everyone. Always good to consult with someone knowledgeable if you have specific health concerns or conditions.
