I am really struggling with my uric acid levels. Just recently got my test results back and they were higher than normal. I’ve been feeling kind of sluggish, and sometimes my joints ache, especially after a long day at work. Like, last week, I thought it was just from sitting too much, but then my doctor said it might be linked to my uric acid levels. Honestly, I’ve never paid much attention to it before. I started googling how to maintain uric acid, but all the info feels overwhelming. Should I just cut out foods or is there a more balanced way to approach it? I miss my favorite foods like red meat and shellfish, but I also don’t want to end up with gout or something worse, you know? Are there specific natural remedies or diets that can help? Like, how to maintain uric acid without feeling deprived? I could really use some advice from those with experience!

First, consider the role of increased uric acid levels associated with kapha and vata dosha imbalance. To mitigate this, focus on adjusting your diet to reduce intake of purine-rich foods, like red meat, shellfish, and certain legumes. It’s wiser, though, to moderate rather than entirely eliminate these, and explore alternatives like chicken or plant-based protein sources.

Incorporating Ayurveda’s emphasis on digestive fire, or agni, can be beneficial. Weak digestive fire can lead to improper protein digestion, thereby increasing uric acid. Consuming warm, cooked meals and using spices like ginger, cumin, and turmeric can help stimulate digestion and maintain a balanced agni. Add a small piece of fresh ginger with a pinch of rock salt before meals to enhance digestive capacity.

Hydration is crucial. Sip warm water throughout the day, which aids in flushing out excess uric acid. Avoid cold beverages, which can dampen digestive fires. Herbal teas, especially those containing nettle or dandelion, support uric acid excretion.
