will curd increase weight - #24487

Benjamin

I am really concerned about my weight lately, and I keep hearing different things about curd. Like, will curd increase weight? I’ve always loved yogurt and have it almost daily, but now I’m questioning myself. Last week, I started working out more, trying to eat healthier, so I thought I'd switch to curd instead of ice cream or cheese. But then my friend said she read somewhere that dairy products can actually make you gain weight! Ugh, that’s so frustrating! I even looked online and found some mixed info on whether curd should be part of a weight loss diet. I mean, it’s good for digestion?? Right? But will curd increase weight in the long run if I'm having it every day for breakfast? I would really appreciate anyone who has experience or knowledge about this. It would really help me clear my head a bit!

Curd, or yogurt, can indeed be a wonderful addition to your diet, especially from an Ayurvedic perspective. Whether it contributes to weight gain depends significantly on how it interacts with your unique dosha (body constitution), your overall diet, and lifestyle. Ayurveda recognizes three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and their influence on our well-being. Since curd is heavy and develops heat when digested, it can be particularly beneficial for balancing Vata dosha, which tends towards dryness. For someone with Kapha dominant, which is naturally prone to overweight or slow metabolism, overconsumption of curd might not be ideal, especially in the evening or in larger quantities, as it can cause further imbalance due to its heaviness and cold nature. If your prakriti (constitution) aligns more with Kapha, you should consume curd sparingly, opting for low-fat varieties and considering having it in the morning or early afternoon when your digestive fire is stronger. Concerning digestion, curd is indeed good for digestion because it contains probiotics that promote gut health, facilitating the digestive process. If you’re concerned about weight, the key is moderation and mindful consumption. Add a bit of honey or sprinkle cumin powder over it, which enhances digestion and reduces the potential heaviness. For your weight loss goals and workout plans, having curd as a snack can be an excellent way to curb cravings for ice-cream or cheese while maintaining nutritional benefits. Make sure to pair it with lighter meals and an active lifestyle to ensure you’re not offsetting your metabolic balance. When included as part of a balanced diet, and depending on your individual needs and conditions, curd doesn't inherently lead to weight gain. Remember, everyone's body is different. Monitor how your body responds to curd and adjust accordingly. If in doubt, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your unique constitution and health status might be beneficial. This will help you craft a diet plan that aligns with your health goals and works harmoniously with your body type!
