how much calories in sattu - #24792

Mia

I am dealing with some weird digestive issues and I’ve been trying a lot of different foods to see what helps. I recently heard about sattu and its benefits, but now I'm curious about how much calories in sattu specifically. I feel like I need more energy, you know? Like, I’ve been getting tired after just a short walk. Anyway, I tried making a sattu drink thinking it would be nutritious, but I kinda freaked out about the calories since I’ve always been told to watch what I eat. Thing is, I love how sattu feels, it's kinda filling but then I just can’t shake off this worry about how much calories in sattu there might actually be. I read somewhere that it’s low-glycemic or something. Could also be a great source of protein? But I’m torn because if it's too many calories, I don’t wanna overdo it. Has anyone figured out exactly how much calories in sattu we should be worried about? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Sattu, which is typically made from roasted gram flour or a mix of grains and pulses, is indeed a nutritious option. It’s generally considered to be an energy-boosting food. Typically, 100 grams of sattu contains around 400 calories, though this may slightly vary based on its composition and ingredients used. Generally it provides a good balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fiber. But let’s clarify its relevance beyond just calories.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, sattu can have several benefits. It’s known to be cooling in nature and can help pacify excess pitta and balance kapha doshas, providing a much-needed energetic lift for those who feel sluggish. Its rich protein content facilitates in tissue repair and muscle building, which might contribute to better energy levels.

When including sattu in your diet, especially if you’re experiencing digestive concerns, it’s important to monitor not just the caloric intake but also the way your body reacts to it. If you’re crafting a sattu drink, you might want to prepare it with water or buttermilk rather than high-calorie liquids like milk, and perhaps avoid adding sugar. This way, you’ll avoid unnecessary calories and leverage sattu’s natural nutrients.

To improve energy and digestion, Ayurveda generally advises having a well-balanced diet tailored to your dosha with meals that are easy to digest to support your digestive ‘agni’ or fire. Observing meal timings and portion sizes—such as having sattu in the morning—can enhance digestion and prevent lethargy post meals. Also, gentle physical activity like walking or yoga may aid your energy levels by enhancing circulation and digestion.

If you’re dealing with digestive issues, it’s always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional to ensure that your dietary choices support your overall well-being. They can potentially provide personalized guidance on incorporating sattu and other foods in balance with your energy needs and digestive health.
