Consider balancing your son's doshas, as hair problems often link to an imbalance, especially of Pitta and Kapha doshas. Oily scalp indicates a Kapha imbalance while hair thinning might be associated with Pitta issues. Here's a personalized approach based on Ayurvedic principles. Start with a Shiro Abhyanga. It's an oil massage for the scalp that nourishes the hair roots and scalp. Use oils like Bhringraj or Brahmi oil, which can be applied thrice a week, ideally before bed. Leave it overnight and wash in the morning with a mild herbal shampoo. This will help his roots strengthen over time. Recommend washing with lukewarm water rather than hot, as excess heat increases Pitta and damages hair. After washing, ensure that he towels dries it gently and avoids aggressive rubbing. Sleeping on a silk pillow can also reduce friction and prevent breakage. Diet plays a vital role too. Encourage a Pitta-pacifying diet - incorporate cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, and melon. He's better off avoiding spicy, sour, fermented or fried foods; they aggravate Pitta dosha. Stay hydrated, with plenty of water. Detoxification can also help. Triphala churna taken with warm water at night aids in detoxification, but do consult a local practitioner to confirm it's right for him. Include relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation to manage stress, as it's a common cause for hair fall. Consider pranayama exercises since they're calming and Pitta balancing. Have a herbal hair pack once a week. Mix amla powder and shikakai with water to a paste, apply, and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing. If issues persist, visiting a local Ayurvedic practitioner can provide bespoke advice, tailored specifically to him by examining prakriti (constitution). However, this should provide a solid starting point in addressing his hair concerns.
