Siddu, it seems like your mother’s knee pain might be due to a combination of factors that could include degenerative changes associated with Vata imbalance, which can be common as we age. While the treatments provided by her current doctors are important, Ayurveda can offer complementary approaches to address the root cause of her pain permanently.

First, consider enhancing her diet to include warm, nourishing, and easily digestible foods that pacify the Vata dosha. Foods like cooked grains, warm soups, stews, and healthy fats like ghee can be beneficial. Ensure she stays hydrated with warm, non-caffeinated fluids throughout the day.

Try to incorporate Ayurvedic herbs known for joint support, such as Ashwagandha, Shallaki (Boswellia), and Turmeric. These can be taken in powder form mixed with warm water or honey. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for appropriate doses based on her specific condition and constitution.

Regular gentle yoga or stretching exercises tailored for her capacity can improve joint mobility and circulation. Encourage her to practice Pranayama (focused breathing exercises) to enhance her overall circulation and calm the nervous system.

Applying warm sesame oil to her knees followed by a gentle massage might provide relief too. You can warm the oil slightly and massage in circular motions around the joints, which can help reduce stiffness and pain.

Ensure she maintains a regular routine; consistency is key in Ayurveda. Early to bed, early to rise, with consistent mealtimes, can help in balancing the body rhythms and settling Vata dosha disturbances.

It’s crucial to follow up with her physician to keep track of her condition and make adjustments as necessary. If pain persists or worsens, ensure she gets timely medical intervention. This holistic strategy can help her find relief, but she should rely on her consulting doctors for any urgent medical concerns.

Based on your mother’s symptoms, it seems like she might be dealing with issues related to vata imbalance, which affects the joints and may lead to pain and stiffness. In Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, addressing vata through diet, lifestyle adjustments, and herbal remedies can provide long-term relief.

First, consider her diet. Encourage her to include warm, nourishing foods like soups, stews, and cooked vegetables, as these can help balance vata. It’s essential she avoids cold and raw foods, which can aggravate the condition. She can also incorporate healthy fats, such as ghee (clarified butter), which can be beneficial for lubricating the joints.

Daily self-massage (abhyanga) using warm sesame oil can be soothing for her joints. Gently massaging the knee area can improve circulation and provide some relief from pain and stiffness. If noise from the joints concerns you, it’s usually due to air being trapped in the tissues; gentle massage can help.

Her routine should include mild, low-impact exercises, such as walking or yoga, to keep the joints flexible without putting strain on them. Be careful to choose movements that are gentle and supportive; avoid anything that causes discomfort.

Consider using herbs like ashwagandha and guggul, which can be beneficial for joint pain and inflammation. It’s wise to consult with a Siddha-Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized recommendations on herbal formulations.

Please be aware that severe or worsening symptoms may require attention beyond these recommendations. If she experiences significant swelling or fever, it’s important she sees a healthcare professional promptly.
