Hello Thank you for your question I completely understand how lifelong constipation can feel exhausting and frustrating, especially when it becomes a daily struggle.but dont worry we are here to help you out😊

✅ AYURVEDIC TREATMENT PLAN

✅INTERNAL MEDICATION

1 Triphala Churna – 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime (Mild laxative, detoxifier, and colon tonic.)

2 Abhayarishta – 20 ml with equal warm water after dinner (Classical formulation for chronic constipation, Vata–Kapha balance, and bowel regulation.)

3 Avipattikar Churna – 1 tsp before meals with warm water if there is acidity or GERD (Corrects Agni without irritation.)

✅ SHODHANA CHIKITSA (Detoxification) to be done in nearby panchakarma center

For lifelong or severe cases, mild Panchakarma cleansing helps reset bowel and liver function:

Sneha Pana (internal oleation) with Tiktaka Ghrita or Triphala Ghrita

Virechana (therapeutic purgation) using Trivrit Leha or Castor oil with milk under supervision

Matra Basti (oil enema) with Dashmoola Taila or Balashwagandhadi Taila – this directly nourishes Apana Vata and permanently improves bowel tone.

✅HOME REMEDIES

👉Castor oil and milk Take 1–2 tsp of castor oil in warm milk at bedtime once or twice weekly for deep colon cleansing.

👉Soaked raisins and figs Eat 5–6 soaked raisins and 2 soaked figs daily in the morning.

👉 Triphala tea: Boil 1 tsp Triphala in a cup of water, reduce to half, strain, and drink at night.

👉Aloe vera pulp: Take 1 tbsp fresh aloe vera gel on an empty stomach in the morning for gentle detoxification.

✅DIET MODIFICATION

✅Include

Warm, freshly cooked meals with ghee Moong dal soup, vegetable khichadi, bottle gourd, ridge gourd Ripe bananas, papaya, soaked prunes Whole grains like red rice, jowar, ragi Plenty of warm water and herbal teas (ginger, cumin, coriander)

❌Avoid

Dry, cold, or leftover food Excess tea, coffee, and refined sugar Processed and fried food Suppressing natural urges Excess sitting and mental stress

✅ LIFESTYLE & YOGA RECOMMENDATIONS

Wake up early (between 5–6 AM) — this supports Apana Vata movement. Drink 2 glasses of warm water upon waking. Practice regular exercise or brisk walking for 30 minutes daily. Yoga asanas beneficial for constipation: Pawanmuktasana, Malasana, Bhujangasana, Paschimottanasana Pranayama: Anulom Vilom and Bhramari calm Vata and support digestion.

Avoid overthinking and mental tension, as stress worsens Apana Vata imbalance.

✅ Can It Be Permanently Cured?

Yes — lifelong constipation can be permanently resolved when the root imbalance in Vata and Agni is corrected. However, this requires consistent management for at least 2–3 months, followed by maintenance with proper diet and lifestyle.

Wishing you a good health😊

Warm regards, Dr Snehal Vidhate

HELLO,

Your symptoms suggest chronic constipation, which can lead or to be associated with

1) DIETRY ISSUES -low fibre intake - insufficient water consumption

2) LIFESTYLE FACTORS -sedentry habits - ignoring the urge to pass stool - stress and anxiety

Ayurvedic views constipation as a vata imbalance, particularly apana vata, which governs elimination. Hard stools and dryness point to excessive dryness in the colon.

Likely involved - vata prakopa(aggravation of vata) - dry, cold, rough qualities dominating

TREATMENT GOALS 1) soften and regulate stools 2) heal and reduce pain 3) Balance vata dosha 4) improves digestive strength 5) prevent recurrence

ENEMA(basti therapy- for chronic case) -sneha basti- lubricates cold, soothes nerves, best for vata - Niruha basti- cleanses colon, resets vata balance

Constipation, especially if it’s been a lifelong issue, points towards a chronic imbalance in your body according to Ayurveda. Usually, constipation is related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and elimination. However, solving this permanently requires a comprehensive approach to identify and rectify underlying issues.

First and foremost, you’ll need to pay closer attention to your diet. Consider including more fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Regular intake of ghee, specifically before sleep, can lubricate your intestines. Drink warm water throughout the day to support flushing out toxins and ease digestion - lukewarm water upon waking stimulates your agni, or digestive fire. Limit intake of processed foods and cold beverages which aggravate Vata. You may find it beneficial to consume meals at consistent times daily, as erratic eating habits can impede digestion.

Strengthening your agni is central to resolving constipation. Consuming ginger tea helps, as ginger stokes digestive fire. A pinch of hing (asafoetida) in your meals can prevent abdominal discomfort and aid in smoother bowel movements. For some, Triphala churna, taken with warm water before bedtime, serves as a gentle laxative that tones the bowel.

Physical activity also plays a crucial role. Regular, moderate exercise can help stimulate peristalsis in the intestines. Practicing yoga postures like Pavanamuktasana (Wind-Relieving Pose) and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) can be particularly effective in promoting elimination.

Stress management is often overlooked but critical. Practices such as meditation or Pranayama (breathing exercises) may help calm Vata, as mental unrest and corresponding physical tension can constrict bowel function.

Constipation can also stem from dehydration. Ensure adequate fluid intake, aiming to sip water through the day rather than gulping large amounts at once. Herbal teas, especially those with fennel or mint, offer a soothing choice to improve digestion.

Consider that an ayurvedic practitioner can assess your prakriti (natural balance) more accurately and tailor recommendations to your specific health profile. If constipation leads to severe discomfort or significant health impacts, seek medical attention to rule out conditions requiring immediate intervention.
