Wrinkles and puffy eye bags can be quite common as we age, especially in a coastal climate like Goa’s, which could lead to increased skin damage due to humidity and sun exposure. Ayurveda can offer some natural solutions that target the root cause of these issues. Firstly, looking into diet— make sure you’re incorporating hydrating foods like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens. These help plump the skin naturally.
Consider Triphala as a daily supplement. Taken with warm water before bed, it aids digestion and detoxification, positively impacting the skin. Ensure your diet balances Pitta, as coastal climates can aggravate this dosha. Avoid excessively spicy, sour, or oily foods. Ghee in moderation can help as it internally lubricates the tissues, promoting elasticity.
Aloe vera gel can be applied directly under the eyes to reduce puffiness. Apply it at night and wash it off in the morning. Opt for Sandalwood and Turmeric paste, both are cooling and have anti-inflammatory properties, mix them into a paste using rose water and apply as a face mask weekly.
A consistent daily routine is important; try Abhyanga – self oil massage using coconut oil. Leave the oil for at least 30 minutes before a warm shower. This nourishes and tones the skin.
Sleep plays a crucial role too. Ensure you’re getting adequate rest, as lack of sleep can exacerbate puffiness. Elevate your head slightly to reduce fluid retention under your eyes.
It’s also beneficial to practice meditation and yoga, not only for circulation but also to reduce stress, which impacts skin health. Pranayama, especially, focuses on balanced breathing to cool the system and improve overall vitality. Face yoga exercises such as gentle tapping around the eyes can stimulate the underlying tissues, enhancing bloodflow. Following these methods consistently should help mitigate wrinkles and eye puffiness.
