Doctors' responses

Pigmentation, especially post-menopause, relates to the natural shifts in the body’s balance. Ayurveda views pigmentation issues as often linked to imbalances in doshas, particularly Pitta and also Vata dosha. Considering your age and post-menopausal status, managing the skin health through diet and lifestyle is practical.

First, consider your diet. Begin by incorporating cooling foods that pacify Pitta, like cucumbers, melons, and pears. Avoid excessively spicy and oily foods, which can aggravate Pitta. Drinking a mix of coriander and cumin tea can also help to balance heat in the body. Simply boil a teaspoon of each seed in 2 cups of water, let it steep, then sip throughout the day.

You might explore applying natural remedies to your skin. Mix a paste using sandalwood powder with a few drops of rose water and apply it to the affected areas. Leave it for 20 minutes before washing off with lukewarm water, doing this a few times a week could help. Turmeric paste, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, may also be beneficial – just make sure to use ‘wild’ turmeric which doesn’t stain the skin as much.

For lifestyle adjustments, prioritize regular and restful sleep to support the body’s natural healing processes. Additionally, practicing gentle yoga and meditation can pacify Vata and Pitta doshas, reduce stress, and keep hormones more balanced, which might indirectly affect pigmentation.

Try massaging the jaw area with a few drops of coconut oil or almond oil. This enhances circulation and can promote healthier skin tissue.

In case of persistent or worrying symptoms, consulting with a healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner in person is advisalbe. They’ll provide a diagnosis tailored to your personal constitution (Prakriti) and current condition (Vikriti).
