Osteopenia and arthritis can be challenging, but there’s room for improvement through Ayurvedic approaches. Addressing osteopenia primarily involves strengthening bone tissue (asthi dhatu) and fostering healthy calcium levels. Start by incorporating foods rich in calcium and healthy fats like sesame seeds, almonds, fenugreek, and leafy greens into your diet. Consume them ideally during your main meals to enhance absorption. Additionally, warm milk with turmeric and a pinch of black pepper taken before bedtime may support bone health by aiding calcium absorption.
For arthritis, balance between exercise and rest is crucial. Continue with weight-bearing exercises as they enhance bone density, but be mindful to not overstrain yourself, especially in painful areas. Gentle yoga poses can improve flexibility and reduce stiffness without exacerbating pain. Poses like Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose) and Tadasana (Mountain Pose) can strengthen your muscles and provide better support to your joints.
Herbal supplements may also play a role. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to consider Ashwagandha or Guggulu, which are renowned for their anti-inflammatory properties and can support joint health. However, always evaluate any supplement for potential interactions with existing treatments.
Daily abhyanga (oil massage) with warm sesame oil or Mahanarayana oil can alleviate joint discomfort, improving mobility and relaxation. Massaging the affected areas gently in the morning, preceding a warm bath, can be beneficial.
Maintaining a consistent routine in diet, exercise, and relaxation practices is essential. Also, manage stress through meditative practices like pranayama, which can positively impact muscle tension and overall well-being.
Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are important to monitor bone density and adjust your regimen as needed. Remember, any significant changes in health should be addressed promptly with professional medical help.
