Doctors' responses

Dealing with double neck lines often comes from prolonged bad posture, repetitive stress on the neck, muscular laxity, or natural aging. An Ayurvedic approach to addressing this includes a combination of dietary modifications, lifestyle adjustments, and targeted Ayurvedic treatments to stimulate rejuvenation while balancing your doshas, particularly Vata which governs skin and aging process.

Starting with diet, ensure you consume warm, easily digestible foods to keep your digestive fire, or agni, balanced. Incorporate foods like cooked vegetables, whole grains, and incorporate spices such as turmeric, ginger, and cumin to support skin health and improve circulation. Drinking warm water throughout the day aids in detoxification and hydration, benefiting skin texture.

On the lifestyle front, maintaining proper posture is crucial, especially since you work on a computer. Align your workspace to allow your screen to be at eye level to avoid continuous downward neck strain. Practice regular neck stretches and exercises like “neck tilts” or “neck rotations”. These help to tone and tighten muscles around the neck area and improve circulation.

For external treatments, Abhyanga, a daily self-massage with warm sesame or almond oil, can enhance circulation and nourish the skin. Pay special attention to gently massaging the neck area in upward strokes. Use oils infused with herbs like Ashwagandha or Brahmi, known for their rejuvenating properties.

Additionally, try Ubtan, a natural face and neck pack made by mixing chickpea flour, turmeric, and milk or rosewater, to help exfoliate and tighten the skin. Apply it once a week, leaving it on till it dries, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Lastly, consider practising yoga postures like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) or Matsyasana (Fish Pose) that focus on the neck area, improving muscle tone and skin elasticity. Continuously check in with how your neck feels and make adjustments as needed to optimize your approach.
