is mulethi good for skin - #41854

Claire

I am really curious about something I’ve been reading. A couple of months ago, I started having these skin issues like dryness and some weird patches that just won't go away. I’ve tried a ton of creams and lotions, but nothing seems to work! Then I stumbled upon this herb called mulethi. People seem to rave about its skin benefits, but I’m unsure. Is mulethi good for skin? I’ve done some online research, and it says mulethi can help with skin issues like pigmentation and dryness. Is that really true? I found a few recipes for face packs with mulethi powder but don’t know how to incorporate it into my routine. Plus, I’m worried! What if it irritates my skin even more?! A friend of mine suggested it because she’s had some success with her acne scars, but I’m feeling kinda hesitant. Maybe I should just stick to what I know instead of trying something new? Anyway, can anyone share their experiences? Is mulethi good for skin, and if so, how should I use it without messing up my skin even more? Would love any tips or advice. Thanks a bunch!

Doctors' responses

Mulethi, also known as Licorice root, indeed shows promise for improving various skin issues, including dryness and pigmentation. From an Ayurvedic perspective, mulethi is beneficial for soothing and balancing excess Pitta and Vata doshas, which can manifest as skin irritations and dryness, respectively. The sweet, demulcent properties of mulethi help to hydrate and soothe the skin, making it a valuable tool for certain dermatological concerns.

If you’re considering incorporating mulethi into your skincare routine, some practical steps can be followed. For example, you could use mulethi powder by mixing it with other skin-friendly ingredients. Combining a teaspoon of mulethi powder with honey or rose water forms a paste. This face mask can be applied to cleansed skin 2-3 times a week, left on for about 15-20 minutes, and gently rinsed with lukewarm water. Honey provides additional hydration, while rose water can help cool the skin.

Nevertheless, before applying it to your entire face, test it on a small patch of skin to ensure there’s no adverse reaction. While mulethi is generally considered gentle, everyone’s skin is different, and caution is key. If any irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.

It’s also essential to maintain a balanced diet and lifestyle to support skin health. Include hydrating foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid excessive sun exposure, and stay hydrated by drinking enough water.

Your hesitancy to try new things is understandable. If you do decide to proceed, start slow and observe how your skin responds. Remember, Ayurveda approaches each individual’s needs uniquely, so personalized advice may also be beneficial. If you continue to experience issues, consider consulting a healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance tailored to your specific constitution and skin type.
