How to treat male pattern baldness and hair thinning at 27 with oily scalp? - #55558
I am 27 years old, and baldness runs in the family. I saw hair thinning and patches in my hair, so I decided to shave my head. Later on, most of the patches were gone but the earlier stage of male pattern baldness was there. Now there is just one patch at the top of my head where there are less follicles but in those follicles, hair grow but not more than 1-2 cm(s). I started with consuming Bhrungadi Vati, and D-10 antidandruff oil. My scalp is oily, I suffer from hairfall, hair thinning and there's that one big patch. Can anyone please help me out? I've been told that ayurveda can reverse this condition, is that true?

Your symptoms suggest early androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) with oily scalp and possibly patchy alopecia areata component. Ayurveda may help slow progression, reduce hair fall, improve scalp health and sometimes regrow miniaturized hair in early stages, but complete reversal of hereditary baldness is not guaranteed. Take Bhringarajasava – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after food Narasimha Rasayana – 1 tsp twice daily after meals Saptamrita Loha – 1 tab twice daily after food Apply Neelibhringadi Taila nightly on scalp and wash in morning For oily scalp/dandruff: wash scalp 2–3 times weekly with mild herbal shampoo Diet/lifestyle Avoid late nights, stress, junk food, excess oily/spicy food Increase protein intake, black sesame, amla, curry leaves, green vegetables Do regular scalp massage but avoid scratching
Your symptoms suggest a combination of: Khalitya (male pattern baldness) Kapha-Pitta imbalance causing oily scalp, itching, dandruff Vata aggravation leading to weak roots and thinning Poor digestion and stress worsening hair nutrition Because your hair still grows in the patch (even short 1–2 cm hair), the follicles are likely not fully dead, which is a positive sign. Ayurvedic Treatment Approach Internal Support Common Ayurvedic medicines used in such conditions are: Bhringraj – strengthens follicles and supports regrowth Amla – cools Pitta and improves hair quality Brahmi / Ashwagandha – reduces stress-related hair fall Triphala – improves digestion and detoxification Guduchi – supports scalp inflammation and immunity Since you have oily scalp and indigestion, treatment should focus first on: Improving digestion Reducing scalp inflammation/oiliness Nourishing hair roots Avoid taking many medicines together without supervision. Scalp Care Oil only 2–3 times weekly Prefer Neelibhringadi oil or light Bhringraj oil Do not keep oil for very long if scalp becomes greasy Wash scalp regularly using mild herbal shampoo Avoid hot water on scalp If dandruff/itching is significant, scalp fungal involvement may also contribute to hair thinning. Diet Guidance Include: Amla Curry leaves Black sesame Pumpkin seeds Moong dal Ghee in small quantity Coconut water Fresh seasonal fruits Avoid: Excess tea/coffee Fried foods Cheese, bakery foods Very spicy and oily food Late-night sleeping Smoking/alcohol if applicable Lifestyle Sleep on time Practice stress reduction: yoga, pranayama, meditation Avoid excessive helmet sweating and harsh hair products Do not repeatedly scratch scalp Can Ayurveda Reverse It? In early-to-moderate stages, Ayurveda may: Reduce hair fall Improve hair thickness Reactivate weak follicles Slow progression significantly But if follicles are completely inactive for years, full regrowth becomes difficult. Consistency for 4–6 months is usually needed before noticeable improvement. Your case still appears to have a good chance of improvement because miniaturized hairs are present in the patch.
