Hello I can totally understand your concern. You had the idea of taking Paripathadi Kadha to help cool the body and bring down the Pitta levels, but in fact, you ended up with constipation. This kind of situation is very frequent among people who have a Vata nature in their digestive system, and it can be totally controlled by simple Ayurvedic interventions.
It is not necessary for you to discontinue the use of the kadha; you just have to balance Vata and make the digestive tract oily again.
✅ AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING
Paripathadi Kadha is a Tikta–Kashaya (bitter-astringent) cooling formula primarily used to: –Reduce Pitta aggravation –Decrease burning, heat, rashes, and acidity –Purify blood –Balance inflammatory conditions (Daha, Pittaja Vikaras)
Nevertheless, the same tikta + kashaya + sheetala attributes might Reduce Agni (digestive fire) Increase rukshata (dryness) Increase Vata dosha in the lower abdomen Reduce gut lubrication (kleda) Cause hard stools + dry colon → constipation
✅AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT
✅INTERNAL MEDICATION
👉Anulomana / Mild Laxatives (Night Time) Triphala churna 1 tsp with warm water after dinner Regularises bowel without irritation, balances Apana Vayu.
👉 Gut Lubrication Support Do it daily for 7–10 days:
1. Cow Ghee 1 teaspoon in warm water before bedtime OR If you are eating lunch, then add 1 teaspoon of ghee in your meal This will help the kadha to reduce the rukshata (dryness) that is produced by it.
✅ Adjusting Paripathadi Kadha Dose
Paripathadi Kadha can be used safely for a few more days. But to keep Vata from getting out of balance: Consume it after eating and not on an empty stomach Cut the dosage to 10 ml + 40 ml water twice daily Put ¼ teaspoon of honey after the kadha if you cannot tolerate the taste of bitter (optional)
✅HOME REMEDIES
1. Overnight Raisin Water Soak 10–12 black raisins overnight Consume the raisins in the morning and drink the water (Naturally softens stools)
2. Warm Water + Ghee 1 tsp ghee in one cup of warm water at night (Highly effective for dryness-induced constipation)
3. Flaxseed Decoction 1 tsp roasted flaxseed is boiled in one glass of water Filter it and drink it at night (Makes the colon oily and lessens the problem of dryness)
4. Banana + 1 tsp Ghee At night after dinner ( Facilitates Apana Vayu movement)
5. Ajwain + Warm Water (If bloating is there) ½ tsp ajwain with warm water (Eases gas + strengthens digestion)
✅DIET MODIFICATION
✔️Foods to Include Warm water throughout the day Ghee in lunch Curd rice (afternoon only) Papaya daily Moong dal khichdi Vegetable soups (bottle gourd, pumpkin, spinach) Fruits: banana, musk melon, pear, soaked figs
❌Foods to Avoid
Dry snacks (biscuits, chips, roasted gram) Excess tea/coffee Cold drinks Raw salads at night Spicy, sour, deep-fried items Skipping meals or late-night dinner
✅LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION
After dinner walk for 15–20 minutes Do not sit immediately after meals Practice Pawanmuktasana, Vajrasana, and Malasana Take warm water instead of cold water Deal with your stress—by deep breathing for 5 minutes in the morning and evening
✅ Should You Stop Paripathadi Kadha?
No, it is not necessary. Constipation is only a result of slight Vata aggravation.
With proper home remedies and just adding triphala chorna will normalize it
Wishing you a good health😊
Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate
This side effect is common and very easy to fix You do NOT have to stop Paripathadi Kadha if it is helping your main problem Just balance it with the right Ayurvedic support Start taking Trivrut Lehyam 1 tsp at night with warm water
Paripathadi kadha is cooling and dry, so in some people, it can reduce digestive fire and slow bubble movement-that is why you have developed constipation. You need not to stop it completely. You have to balance its dryness with Ayurvedic support. Take 1 teaspoon of ghee with warm water at night, this alone will prevent constipation from paripathadi… Or you can take triphala churna 1 teaspoon with warm water at night. It is very safe and keeps bowel soft n regular… Drink warm water throughout the day instead of cold water
Hello, Please take one teaspoon of avipathikara churnam at bed time with a cup of warm water till your next follow up consulation with your ayurveda doctor, who prescribed paripathadi kadha. Take care, Kind regards.
Paripathadi Kadha is cooling and slightly drying in nature, so in some people it can reduce digestion and cause mild constipation, especially if your body already has less digestive fire. You don’t need to stop it just balance it with the right Ayurvedic support.
What to take along with Paripathadi Kadha to avoid constipation
Use any one of these
Triphala Churna – ½ teaspoon with warm water at night Gandharvahastadi Kashayam Tablet – 1 tablet at bedtime Avipattikar Churna – ½ teaspoon after dinner with warm water Isabgol (psyllium husk) – 1 teaspoon in warm water at night
These soften stools and keep digestion comfortable.
Extra easy tips
Drink warm water, avoid chilled drinks Add 1–2 teaspoons ghee to lunch or dinner Eat papaya or warm soaked raisins at night
You can continue Paripathadi Kadha safely, just use one of the above medicines at night for 4–5 days. Your constipation will settle, and your digestion will feel normal again.
1.Triphala churna 1 tsp at bedtime with warm milk 2.Isabgol-1 tsp twice daily with warm milk 3.Ghee-A natural mild laxative 1 tsp twice daily with meal or warm milk
🍲 Diet & Lifestyle Adjustments - Increase hydration: sip warm water throughout the day. - Add fiber-rich foods: papaya, figs, soaked raisins, green leafy vegetables. - Avoid excess dry, cold, or processed foods while on Paripathadi Kadha. - Gentle walking or yoga (Pawanmuktasana, Vajrasana after meals) helps bowel movement.
Ahh okay, this makes total sense — Paripathadi Kadha is cooling and Pitta-pacifying, but in some people it can slow down Agni a bit and cause mild constipation. Nothing dangerous, just your digestion saying, “Hey, this is a little too cooling for me.”
No need to panic and throw the medicine away — we can balance it easily. Let me give you a safe, simple Ayurvedic plan so you can continue Paripathadi without getting constipated.
✅ Why Paripathadi Kadha caused constipation *It reduces body heat strongly *It cools digestion *It dries the gut slightly *This slows bowel movement for some people, especially if your Agni is already delicate.
🌿 Ayurvedic Solutions (Safe + Effective) 1. Add a Gentle Lubricating Medicine Take 1 tsp of Ghee in warm water every night. This alone solves 80% of constipation caused by cooling kadhas.
If you don’t like ghee, you can use: -1 tsp castor oil in warm water at bedtime — only 2–3 nights per week OR 1 tsp sesame oil before meals (very effective)
2. Use a Mild Ayurvedic Laxative These are very safe and won’t interfere with Paripathadi kadha 1.Triphala Churna -½ tsp at bedtime with warm water ✔️ Improves digestion ✔️ Softens stool ✔️ Prevents dependency 2. Gandharvahastadi Kashayam 10 ml + equal warm water at night ✔️ For people with dry bowel + Vata aggravation 3. Keep Paripathadi Kadha but Change Timing Instead of taking it on an empty stomach, take it after breakfast. This reduces its cooling effect on digestion.
🥗 Simple Diet to avoid constipation while on cooling medicines: ✔️ Include: * Warm water all day * 1 small banana daily (if sugar is normal) * Moong dal * Steamed vegetables * 1 tsp flaxseed or chia seeds * Warm jeera water after meals
❌ Avoid: * Cold water * Too much rice * Oily food * Tea/coffee first thing in the morning * Skipping meals These make the constipation worse.
⭐ When to stop Paripathadi Kadha?
Stop it only if: -You get severe constipation -You go without a bowel movement for > 2 days -You feel bloated or heavy every time you take it
Otherwise, with the above corrections, you can safely continue it.
Warm regards Dr.Sumi.S MS(Ayu)
HELLO,
Paripathadi kadha is pitta reducing, cooling,. astringent ayurvedic formulation. Because of its drying, absorbent qualities, some people- especially those with Vata-dominant tendencies may experience -constipation -hard dtools -bloating -dryness This happens even more if your dietary fiber is only moderate, as you mentioned
AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT TO AVOID CONSTIPATIO WHILE TAKING PARIPATHADI KADHA
1) COMBINE PARITPATHADI KADHA WITH VATA SUPPORTS
-Add 1-2 tsp of warm ghee daily =especially at bedtime with warm milk or water, lubricates intestines , softens stools
-Increase warm water intake =sip warm water throughout the day -avoid cold water increase vata
Your symptoms suggest chronic constipation, which can lead or to be associated with
1) DIETRY ISSUES -low fibre intake - insufficient water consumption
2) LIFESTYLE FACTORS -sedentry habits - ignoring the urge to pass stool - stress and anxiety
Ayurvedic views constipation as a vata imbalance, particularly apana vata, which governs elimination. Hard stools and dryness point to excessive dryness in the colon.
Likely involved - vata prakopa(aggravation of vata) - dry, cold, rough qualities dominating
TREATMENT GOALS 1) soften and regulate stools 2) heal and reduce pain 3) Balance vata dosha 4) improves digestive strength 5) prevent recurrence

STRONGER LAXATIVES( IF SEVERE CONSTIPATION)
1) GANDHARVAHASTADI KASHAYA= 15ml with warm water twice daily before meals =clears vata from the colon, use for dry constipation
2) ERANDA TAILA= 5-10 ml with warm milk at bedtime once weekly =strong purgatives, lubricates colon, heals fissure
DIET RECOMMENDATIONS the goal is to moisten the intestines, balance vata, and ensure soft, regular stools

If constipation worsens or Does not improve after 3-5 days, reduce or stop temporarily
DO FOLLOW
HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL
THANK YOU
DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
Why you taking pariphata kashaya. If you don’t have body heat excessive sweating or any skin condition then don’t take. If you have then take this only 1. Tab Vasulax 2HS at bed time with warm water. If toilet visit exceed 2 time decrease the dose to 1 tab only.
Paripathadi Kadha is drying & Vata-increasing by nature → constipation is very common if taken alone. Dont stop it – just add these 2 things and constipation will vanish from tomorrow itself:
Best 2 additions (take with every dose) 1. Take Paripathadi Kadha with equal quantity of warm milk instead of water → Example: 20 ml Kadha + 20 ml warm milk → mix → drink
2. Add 1 tsp pure cow ghee in the same glass (or take separately) → ghee lubricates intestines instantly
Extra safe nightly routine Triphala Churna – ½ to 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime
Diet tip Add 1 ripe banana OR stewed apple daily Drink 1 glass warm water morning empty stomach

Paripathadi kadha, typically used for its benefits in managing fever-related ailments, can sometimes lead to constipation in certain individuals, especially if one’s Vata dosha is predominant or aggravated. If you’re experiencing constipation as a result of this, it might mean that it’s disrupting your usual bowel rhythm or affecting your digestive fire (agni).
First, consider evaluating your current diet and hydration. Increase intake of warm water throughout the day, which helps keep the bowels regular. Adding fiber-rich foods like leafy greens, oats, or cooked vegetables into your meals can be quite beneficial. Ghee, particularly before a meal, can help lubricate the intestines—take about 1 teaspoon of ghee in warm milk at night to assist with bowel movement.
In terms of Ayurveda, triphala churna is a classic and effective solution for constipation. Consume about half to 1 teaspoon with warm water before bed, but don’t overdo it—even nature’s remedies can be powerful and need balance.
Yoga and light exercise, such as a short daily walk, can also stimulate peristalsis and help in relieving constipation. Specific asanas like Pavanamuktasana or Trikonasana are particularly beneficial.
Additionally, ensure you’re not skipping meals or eating cold or dry foods, as these can aggravate Vata and worsen constipation. Always consume freshly cooked, warm meals. Review timing of consuming Paripathadi kadha and see if after meals instead of before, lessens the issue.
If constipation persists it’s prudent to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized assessment—sometimes formulas need minor adjustments per individual needs. Discontinue, the kadha if you experience any significant discomfort or side effects; there is usually an alternative approach to suit your specific needs, ensuring holistic harmony within your prakriti.
