how to use baidyanath mahabhringraj oil - #43735

Anna

I am currently dealing with this really annoying hair loss issue, and I've heard some good things about baidyanath mahabhringraj oil. My Grandma swears by it, saying it worked wonders when she was dealing with thinning hair years ago. I tried using it for a few weeks after doing some research, but I'm not totally sure I'm using it the right way. I mean, I just massage it in and let it sit, but there’s gotta be more to it, right? Like, how to use baidyanath mahabhringraj oil effectively? Should I be applying it daily, or is that overkill? And what about the amount? I heard a dime size but sometimes that feels too little. Also, would it be better if I warmed it up first or just use it straight out of the bottle? Some of my friends told me they noticed a difference after a month, but I kinda feel like I'm not seeing any results yet! Should I just stick with it or are there other ways to maximize its benefits? I’ve really been thinking about getting my mom involved too, she's been dealing with some gray hair and everything lately. Just need some direction on how to use baidyanath mahabhringraj oil properly to get the best results. Thanks for any advice!

Doctors' responses

Baidyanath Mahabhringraj Oil is traditionally praised for its beneficial effects on hair health, especially in cases of hair fall and thinning. However, its efficacy can be maximized by following certain application techniques aligned with Ayurvedic principles. First things first, daily application of oil might indeed be a bit much, which can actually weigh hair down or make the scalp greasy; applying it 2-3 times a week should be sufficient for most people. When it comes to the amount, it depends on hair length and thickness but a little more than a dime or quarter-sized amount should be enough, adjusting as necessary to make sure it covers both the scalp and hair strands.

Warming the oil slightly before use can enhance its absorption and improve your scalp’s blood circulation. Gently heat it using the double boiler method, making sure it’s comfortably warm and not hot, to avoid any scalp irritation.

Massage this warmed oil into your scalp for around 5-10 minutes using your fingertips. Ensure that the pressure is light; this stimulates the hair follicles without damaging them. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes to a couple of hours before washing it off with a mild, preferably herbal, shampoo.

Consider some dietary adjustments to support hair growth from within. Ayurveda often suggests incorporating amla (Indian gooseberry), sesame seeds, and curry leaves in your diet, as they are known to nourish the hair and improve its health.

Patience with this regimen is crucial, since natural remedies can often take longer to show noticeable results, particularly in cases like hair loss.

For your mom, using Mahabhringraj Oil might also benefit her as it’s believed to help with nourishing the hair and delaying greying by strengthening the natural pigmentation. Application can follow the same guidelines outlined above.

Additionally, practicing regular yoga and meditation can help reduce stress, which is often a hidden cause of hair loss and premature greying. Remember, while Baidyanath Mahabhringraj Oil is a strong ally for hair care, integrating these holistic practices and dietary suggestions can further enhance its benefits.

To use baidyanath mahabhringraj oil effectively, let’s focus on a few key aspects: application, frequency, and preparation. Begin by taking a small amount of the oil—enough to cover your scalp, but not so little that it feels ineffective. The amount can vary based on your hair thickness and length, so if a dime size feels insufficient, increase it just enough until it comfortably coats your scalp.

Apply the oil in sections to ensure it reaches the roots. Warm the oil slightly before application. Do this by placing the bottle in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes. This helps in unblocking the channels (nadis) and enhances absorption, which is especially beneficial for stimulating hair follicles and promoting growth. Use circular motions with your fingertips, massaging it gently into your scalp. This will stimulate blood circulation, essential to address the underlying root cause of hair loss related to your dosha imbalance. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes to an hour before washing it off; overnight application can also be beneficial if convenient.

As far as frequency, start with applying it 2-3 times a week. Daily use isn’t necessarily overkill but may not be feasible for everyone, so prioritize according to your schedule. Consistency over weeks is crucial for visible results, given the oil supports the nourishment of sapta dhatus, especially the asthi (bone) and majja (nerve tissue) the latter being strongly related to hair health.

For your mom dealing with graying hair, a similar regimen can be followed. Mahabhringraj oil is known in Ayurveda to support reduction in hair graying by balancing vata dosha, and regular application may contribute positively to her concern.

In addition to oiling, ensure your diet is balanced according to your prakriti. Include foods that balance your specific dosha that may be contributing to hair fall, such as cooling and hydrating foods if pitta is high. Hydration is key, and herbal teas like amla or bhringraj can compounds the effects of the oil.

Remember, it’s equally important to ensure there’s no underlying medical cause linked to your hair loss, if it’s refractory to these steps. Consulting an ayurvedic practitioner can provide a tailored approach based on your constitution.
