Piles, or hemorrhoids, arises from swollen veins in the rectal area. Even if there are no significant symptoms like pain, a proactive approach can aid in prevention and provide relief. Although you follow a vegetarian diet, smoking is still a contributing factor that might affect your condition and overall digestive health. Reducing or quitting smoking would be advisable.

First, focus on maintaining proper bowel movements. They need to be smooth and regular. Increase fiber intake through foods like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, especially those rich in fiber like broccoli, carrots, and spinach. Hydration is crucial—drink plenty of warm water throughout the day. Warm water aids digestion and helps prevent constipation, which can worsen piles.

In Ayurveda, Triphala is particularly beneficial. This herbal remedy can be taken at bedtime; mix one teaspoon of Triphala powder in warm water and drink it to support digestion and regulate bowel movements. Triphala works to balance all three doshas to some extent and specifically aids in detoxifying the colon.

Incorporate regular exercise into your routine. Even light activities like walking, yoga or jogging boost circulation and aid digestion. For piles, specific yoga poses like Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-the-Wall pose) may alleviate discomfort and improve circulation around the anal region.

Maintain hygiene by gently cleansing the anal area after bowel movements. Use warm water and avoid excessive wiping which might irritate the skin. Additionally, consider sitz baths; sitting in warm water for 10-15 minutes can reduce swelling and offer relief.

Always tune into your body’s signals. If bleeding, pain or worsening symptoms occur, consult a healthcare provider promptly—especially if the symptoms persist or worsen over time. While Ayurveda offers support, professional medical evaluation ensures a comprehensive approach tailored to your needs.
