I am in a bit of a pickle and really need some advice! A few weeks ago, I decided to try henna on my hair for the first time, thinking it would be this fun change and honestly, I just wanted to go for that rich color everyone talks about. But now, wow, it’s way darker than I imagined! I mean, my hair looks almost black in certain lights and I was hoping for a more subtle look. I’ve even tried washing it multiple times, but it seems like my hair just holds onto the henna and won't budge. I’ve read all these things about how to remove henna from hair naturally, like using baking soda or even yogurt, but I’m a bit nervous to try it. I just don’t want to damage my hair and I don’t know if those methods will actually work. Do any of you have tips on how to remove henna from hair without ruining it? Like, what’s the best way to go about this? It feels like I’m stuck with this dark color forever! Also, if there are any salon treatments that might help, I’m open to those too, but really looking for something safe and effective. Thanks for any help you can give!

First, consider incorporating warm coconut oil massages into your routine. As per Ayurveda, coconut oil has qualities that help to subtly ease color out of the hair shaft, while also nourishing it. Apply warm coconut oil and keep it on for a few hours, or ideally overnight. Wash it out the next day with a mild, sulfate-free shampoo. Doing this regularly can aid in lightening the color naturally over time.

For an even more perceptible change, you might try a mix of fuller’s earth (Multani mitti) with yogurt. Fuller’s earth has been used in Ayurveda to cleanse and pull impurities. Mix equal parts of fuller’s earth and plain yogurt, apply the mix generously to your hair, and leave it for about 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. This combination might help lift some of the henna hues while nourishing your locks.

Another tip from the ancient texts is the use of lemon or amla (Indian gooseberry) juice, which can help in fading the color. Mix the juice with some water and spray it onto your hair, ensuring that you don’t overdo it. The acidity might help in breaking down the dye while also bringing a shine to your hair.

If you’re considering salon treatments, a deep oil treatment or detoxifying hair mask might offer some solace. However, be cautious with chemical-based removal options, as they can be harsh on hair structure.
