My husband has been having chest heaviness, with slight tingling of his left hand and fingers for the past 3 months. A stress test came back normal. Given you’re describing symptoms like chest heaviness and tingling, it’s crucial first to prioritize immediate safety. Despite a normal stress test, these symptoms warrant further evaluation by a healthcare professional, especially since the sensations intensify with exertion. Please encourage him to follow up with his primary care for a more comprehensive cardiac evaluation.

In addition to seeking medical attention, there’s a ayurvedic approach you can consider. These symptoms may be related to imbalances in Vata and Pitta doshas, which involve the nervous and circulatory systems. Enhancing circulation, calming nerves, and improving overall heart health are primary targets.

Start with his diet: he might benefit from warm, cooked meals that pacify Vata and Pitta, such as cooked grains, soups, and steamed vegetables. Avoid overly spicy, fried, or heavy foods as they can exacerbate Pitta. Include heart-friendly spices like turmeric, cinnamon, and cumin in his meals. These spices gently improve digestion and circulation.

Daily practices like self-massage with warm sesame oil, which pacifies Vata, can help calm the nervous system. Encourage him to focus on the chest and shoulders during the massage. Also, pranayama (breathing exercises) like Anulom Vilom and Brahmari can help calm the mind and nervous system, aiding in relaxation.

Moreover, ensure his sleeping patterns are consistent. Encourage winding down 1-2 hours before bed with reading or meditation if possible since restful sleep balances the nervous system.

Please ensure that any Ayurvedic remedies are commplemented by regular follow-ups with a cardiologist to exclude underlying conditions. Making lifestyle adjustments should be complementary to ongoing conventional care, not a replacement.

In your husband’s case, chest heaviness combined with tingling in the left hand, especially when aggravated by physical activity, warrants caution. While his stress test was normal, these symptoms can still signal cardiac-related issues that are sometimes not captured under certain test conditions. It’s crucial first to rule out any serious underlying heart conditions thoroughly. He should consult a cardiologist to discuss his symptoms and possibly explore further investigations like an echocardiogram or a different type of stress test that might reveal issues not previously detected.

If those checks conclude it’s not an urgent cardiac issue, a Siddha-Ayurvedic approach could help address vata imbalance potentially contributing to circulation issues. Since vata governs movement and neurological functions, its imbalance can cause such tingling sensations. Encourage him to maintain a vata-pacifying diet – warm, cooked, easily digestible foods, avoiding cold and dry foods that might aggravate vata. Foods like cooked grains, root vegetables, nuts, and dairy in moderation can be beneficial.

Incorporating abhyanga or oil massage with sesame oil before bath can stabilize vata as well. Focus also on calming practices, like deep breathing exercises (pranayama), which can be beneficial to balance energy flow through nadis.

Herbal formulations like Ashwagandha and Brahmi can support nervous system health, aiding in reducing tingling sensations, but this should be undertaken after consulting a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. Don’t rely solely on these measures if symptoms persist or worsen; seek medical advice promptly.
