Erosive gastritis often links to imbalance in the Pitta dosha, reflecting excess heat and inflammation in the stomach lining. To address this through Ayurveda, an orderly approach is essential. First, focus on pacifying Pitta by adjusting your diet and lifestyle—avoid spicy, oily, or fried foods, caffeinated beverages, and alcohol. Favor cooling, unctuous foods like coconut water, fresh cucumber, and buttermilk, which soothe the gut lining.
Herbal formulations like Amla (Indian Gooseberry) and Mulethi (Licorice root) are potent for their anti-inflammatory properties. Taking amla juice, about 20-30 ml on an empty stomach in the morning can gradually cool the Pitta and heal the stomach lining. Similarly, Mulethi tea, prepared by boiling 1 teaspoon of licorice root powder in water, can be sipped twice daily.
Pranayama (breathing exercises) like sheetali and Nadi Shodhana can help dissipate excess heat and promote a calm digestive process. Practice daily in the morning or early evening. A triphala churna can also be effective, helping improve digestion while detoxing the system; just take 1 teaspoon with warm water before bedtime.
Ensure your meals are regular and small portions to avoid overburdening the digestive fire, or agni. Conditions such as erosive gastritis may require thorough attention, so if symptoms persist or worsen, consulting a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation is crucial. Ayurveda empowers you to address root causes holistically but prioritize your immediate health needs accordingly.
