Hello I‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ understand what you mean. Urinary incontinence that lasts for a long time, as in your case, combined with heredity, can be very annoying and can influence negatively your overall well-being. Ayurveda offers solutions that, if used regularly, lead to the gradual strengthening of urinary control and the decrease of frequency.

YOUR CONCERN

You are experiencing:

Urinary incontinence for more than 10 years Condition worsens due to pollution and NSAIDs Presence of family history (parents affected) Used herbal products but got only partial relief

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

This disorder is typically associated with Vata (Apana Vata imbalance) Causes the loss of bladder control, frequent urination, and urination –Regular intake of toxins, polluted air, and certain medicines (NSAIDs) aggravate Vata –Deterioration of pelvic muscles leads to loss of bladder control

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT PLAN

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1. Punarnava Mandur 1 tsp twice daily after food → Purifies and strengthens the urinary tract, lessens the leakage and the swelling

2. Chandraprabh Vati 2 tablets twice daily after food → Vata-pacifying, cooling, helps urination urgency

3. Ashwagandha Churna – ½ tsp at night with warm milk or water → Helps the strengthening of pelvic muscles and nerves

4. Shatavari kalpa – 1 tsp at night with milk → Nourishes urinary and reproductive systems of females

Continue these for 3–4 months for visible improvement

EXTERNAL THERAPIES

1. Abhyanga (oil massage) Apply Mahanarayan Taila on lower back and abdomen Massage daily or every other day enhances blood flow and relieves Vata

LIFESTYLE RECOMMENDATIONS

Pelvic floor exercises / Kegel exercises every day Do not sit for long periods; take short breaks every 1 hour Reduce the intake of NSAIDs if possible It is better to drink warm water all through the day than cold water Do not consume an excessive amount of coffee, tea, and alcohol Practice deep breathing / Anulom Vilom to pacify Vata

DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS

✅ INCLUDE

Foods that are warm and cooked Ghee in little amounts daily Ashwagandha, Shatavari either in the diet or as supplements Almonds and walnuts, both soaked

❌ AViods

Cold drinks Iced food or water Excessively salty, spicy, and packaged foods

It is quite hard to bring about a total reversal when the condition is old, however, the symptoms can be reduced to a great extent, and the quality of life can be uplifted to a large degree.

Warm regards, Dr ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Snehal Vidhate

Urinary incontinence, especially when influenced by factors like age, pollution, and medication usage, can indeed be a complex issue. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it could involve imbalances in the Vata dosha, as Vata governs movement including the bladder function. Addressing these concerns requires a multifaceted approach.

Firstly, focus on managing Vata through diet and lifestyle adjustments. Incorporate warm, moist, and grounding foods into your meals. Aim for cooked vegetables, whole grains like rice and oats, and proteins such as legumes and nuts. Healthy fats like ghee can also be beneficial to soothe Vata. Avoid cold, dry, and processed foods which could aggravate Vata.

It’s important to stay hydrated with warm water or herbal teas. Avoid beverages that can irritate the bladder like caffeine and alcohol whenever possible. Since pollution seems to exacerbate your symptoms, consider implementing a routine to purify the air in your living space, such as using indoor plants known for air purification or air purifiers.

Herbal formulations such as Ashwagandha and Bala can be helpful to strengthen the tissue (dhatus) and support the nervous system. These herbs should be taken under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure safety and efficacy.

Engage in exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, such as yoga poses like Mula Bandha (root lock) which can be incorporated into your daily routine for long-term benefits. Avoiding stressful activities or those that induce strain could help manage symptoms better.

As NSAIDs seem to worsen your condition, consult your healthcare provider to explore alternative pain management strategies. This is especially crucial as prolonged use of NSAIDs can affect urinary function. Should your incontinence present unexpectedly or worsen rapidly, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. Safety and proper medical assessment are always of utmost priority.

HELLO,

Urinary incontinece means loss of control over urine, either as -leakage on coughing, sneezing, walking (stress type) -sudden urge with ability to hold urine (urge type) -continous dribbling -night time leakage

In your case since -It has been present for more than 10 ears -It worsens with age -It runs in the family -It gets aggravated by pollution and pain medicines

This is a chronic , degenerative, constitutional condition , not a simple infected

According to Ayurveda, urine control depends on -Apana vata (downward-moving nerve force) -Basti (urinary bladder and sphincter muscles) -Mamsa Dhatu (muscle tissue) -Majja dhatu (nerves)

WHAT HAS GONE WRONG?

A) VATA DOSHA INCREASE (main cause) with age, stress, pollution, dryness, medicines like NASIDs -vata becomes excessively dry, light, unstable -nerves supplying the bladder weaken -bladder muscles lose tone

B) DHATU KSHAYA (tissue weakness ) over years -pelvic muscles become weak -bladder neck and sphincter cannot close properly

C) HERIDITARY FACTOR (beeja dushti) when parents had similar problems -structural and nerve weakness is inherited -symptoms appear earlier and progress slowly

D) POLLUTION AND NSAIDs -Pollution creates ama (toxic load)-> irritates bladder -NASIDsdry tissues and worsen nerve weakness This is why the problem is long standing and slowly progressive

TREATMENT GOALS -stabilize apana vata -strengthen bladder and pelvic muscles -improve nerve control -reduce irritation and urgency -prevent further degeneration -improve quality of life

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) CHANDRAPRABHA VATI= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 3 months =strengthen bladder spinchter, reduces urgency ad frequency, balaces vata and kapha , improves urinary tome

2) GOKSHURADI GUGGULU= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 2 months =nourishes urinary system, reduces irritation, supports bladder muscles, prevents inflammation

3) ASHWAGANDHA CAPSULES= 1 cap twice daily after meals for 4 months = strengthens nerves, improves muscle tone, anti aging rasayana, reduces stress related worseing

4) SHATAVARI CHURNA = 1 tsp twice daily with warm milk for 3 months =nourishes bladder lining, improves tissue strength, prevents dryness

5) KSHEERBALA TAILA= 10 drops at night with warm milk for 3 moth =directly strengthens nerves, controls vata degeneration , improves sphincter control

EXTERNAL THERAPIES

1) OIL MASSAGE= BALA ASHAWAGADHADI TAILA -areas= lower abdomen, lower back, hips, thighs, daily =improves nerve conduction, strengthens pelvic muscles, reduces vata dryness

DIET -warm, freshly cooked meals -rice, wheat, oats -ghee 1-2 tsp daily -milk warm -alomnds soaked -dates, figs -moong dal

AVOID -cold food and drinks -packaged, dry snacks -excess tea, coffee -alcohol -very spicy, and sour food -artificial sweetners

Regular meal timing is very important

LIFESTYLE -maintain regular toilet habits -empty bladder completely -keep body warm -reduce exposure to pollution -gentle walking daily

DONT’S -suppressing urge to urinate -excess travel without rest -excess NSAIDs use -late nights

YOGA ASANAS -baddha konasana -setu bandhasana -malasana -viparita karani

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES -ashwini mudra (very important) -Mula bandha

PRANAYAM -anulom vilom -bhramari -deep abdominal breathing

=all stregthens pelvic floor, improves nerve control, reduces vata aggravation

HOME REMEDIES -warm milk with nutmeg at night -sesame oil massage before bath -avoid cold water bathing -triphala at night if constiation present

This condition is -chronic -age related -herediatry -vata dominant

Ayurveda offers safe, long term functional improvement, not temporary suppression. With regular medicines, lifestyle correction, yoga and basti, this condition can be controlled and progression slowed significantly

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
