Doctors' responses

I understand that living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can be challenging, especially when symptoms like joint swelling, pain, and stiffness persist despite treatment. Your experience of worsening symptoms after starting Ayurveda, along with the introduction of thyroid issues, may be concerning. It is important to recognize that in Ayurveda, the body often undergoes a healing process that can involve fluctuations in symptoms, sometimes referred to as a “healing crisis.” This is where the condition may seem to worsen before it improves, as the body eliminates toxins and balances itself.

The medications you are currently taking, such as Gokshuradi Guggulu, Singhnad Guggulu, and Arogyavardhini, are aimed at reducing inflammation and supporting joint health. While these remedies can be effective, their benefits can take time, and individual responses can vary greatly. It’s crucial to maintain regular communication with your vaidya about your symptoms, as they can adjust your treatment plan as needed.

In addition to your current Ayurvedic regimen, consider incorporating practices that promote overall well-being and help manage inflammation. Gentle exercises like yoga and stretching can improve joint mobility and reduce stiffness. Meditation and breathing exercises may also help alleviate stress, which can exacerbate inflammatory conditions.

Dietary management plays a significant role in managing RA. While you have been diligent about avoiding inflammatory foods, consider focusing on including more anti-inflammatory foods in your diet, such as turmeric, ginger, and omega-3 fatty acids found in flaxseeds and walnuts. Ensure you stay hydrated and consume foods rich in antioxidants, such as leafy greens, berries, and nuts, to support your overall health.

Regarding the concerns raised by another doctor about your worsening condition, it’s true that healing experiences can vary. Some patients may experience a temporary increase in symptoms as their body adjusts, while others may have a smoother transition. It’s essential to be patient and give your body time to respond to treatment.

RA can certainly be a tough ride, and it’s frustrating not to see immediate results, especially when you’re doing everything that’s suggested. It’s importnt to rmbr that Ayurvedic treatment, especially for chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, often takes a longer commitment to manifest significant changes coz it works on the root cause.

I hear you’re already doing a bunch of stuff — Gokshuradi Guggulu, Singhnaad, Aarogyavardhini, and all. It’s a good lineup, but each body reacts a bit differently. One thing to keep in mind is your Agni, or digestive fire. It might not be strong enough to properly absorb the ama-pachak (detoxifying) meds you’re taking. Maybe your current regimen misses some agni-boosting adjustments? Try to add fresh ginger tea before meals to help aid digestion. This could help with the absorption.

You mentioned castor oil with milk every 15 days, but it might be good to switch it up and also look at your meal timings, caffeine, and water intake, as they too can be key. Make sure you’re going to bed by 10 pm and supporting your varaahar (biological clock), especially since sleep’s a bit elusive. Massaging joints with warm sesame oil daily before a warm bath can provide some ease to the stiffness and swelling.

About Dr’s comment, it’s plausible that healing reactions can occur, but if discomfort is persisting or worsening, discuss openly with your Vaidya about progressive changes to your plan. And don’t forget, managing stress through pranayama or meditation must be in you’re toolkit. Stick with therapies that balance Vata coz it tends to flare things up in RA. Keep yourself updated regularly on thyroid status too, as assorted hormones can impact inflammation and body response.

Just keep at it, fam! Your persistence and constant communication with your doctor is vital. Give it time but make sure to adjust when necessary. If you need an alternative or second opinion in the mean time, it’s okay to explore that as well, coz you want the best relief, right?
