I am struggling a lot with this insomnia thing lately! It’s been almost a month of tossing and turning in bed. I’ve tried everything! I mean, I’m talking about warm milk, meditation, but nothing’s really help. My friend suggested some ayurvedic remedies for insomnia, and honestly, I’m curious but also kinda lost on what to choose. I did some reading online, and there’s sooo much info about ayurvedic remedies for insomnia, but I guess I just need something really practical, ya know? I even went to a sleep specialist who said my sleep patterns are all over the place. Like, sometimes I can’t sleep until 3 AM, and other times I wake up at 5 AM and can’t go back to sleep. It’s stressed me out a bunch because I feel like a zombie at work. I heard things like Ashwagandha and Brahmi could be beneficial from those ayurvedic remedies for insomnia, but like, where do I even find those? And do they really work? Anyone could share their experiences? I wanna know if there are specific dosages or even recipes for these remedies that are known to help people? Just trying to figure out a way to get back to those good night sleep days! Thanks a lot in advance for any advice or tips you can give, it would really mean a lot!

Insomnia can be really disruptive, I understand how challenging it might be. Thankfully, Ayurveda offers some practical solutions. First, let’s talk about Ashwagandha and Brahmi, they are quite popular in managing stress and promoting better sleep. Ashwagandha, known as a natural adaptogen, helps balance the cortisol level, which can assist in reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality. You can get Ashwagandha in powder or capsule form at a health food store or online. A common dosage is about 500 mg per day. Try taking it in the evening after your dinner.

Brahmi is another excellent herb, known for calming the mind and enhancing memory. It’s typically used as a tea or a capsule. For tea, you can steep a teaspoon of Brahmi leaves in hot water for about 10-15 minutes, which you could drink before bed.

Try establishing a consistent bedtime routine too. According to Ayurveda, going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps in resetting the body’s internal clock. This consistency supports your body’s natural circadian rhythms.

Abhyanga, an oil massage, profoundly relaxes both the body and mind, promoting restful sleep. Use warm sesame or coconut oil before your evening shower; this practice calms Vata dosha, which can help soothe the nervous system.

Also, consider dietary tweaks. Consuming warm, cooked meals at dinner, preferably by 7 PM, supports digestion and prevents sleep disturbances. Foods that enhance serotonins like almonds or walnuts might be beneficial.

You may also use Triphala beginning with half a teaspoon, helps detox, and supports healthy bowel movements, improving sleep indirectly by enhancing digestion.

Finally, regular meditation and pranayama can have a huge impact. Start with Nadi Shodhana or deep breathing for 5-10 minutes daily before getting into bed.

Implement these remedies gradually, witnessing how your body responds. While these recommendations are usually safe, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any new regimen is always wise, especially if you’re on other medications or have existing health conditions.
