Ayurveda really gets to the heart of things, doesn’t just put a band-aid on symptoms. For cervical spondylosis, the idea is to balance the doshas, particularly Vata, as its aggravation can lead to dryness and degeneration in the cervical spine. Yeah, poor posture and weakened muscles push things out of whack too. Ayurveda takes a holistic approach – we’re looking at diet, lifestyle, and specific treatments together.
Now, when we talk treatment: Abhyanga, or daily oil massage, is a biggie. Using medicated oils like Mahanarayan or Ashwagandha oil can relax muscles and help ease pain. Warm these a bit and gently massage your neck and shoulders daily. It helps increase blood flow and nourishes the tissues. Kati Basti is wonderful too, though it’s typically more for lumbar. For cervical, you’ll be looking at Greeva Basti – warm oil pooled over the neck’s contours– great for relieving stiffness and kinda cleansing the joint tissues.
Herbs like Guggulu, which acts as anti-inflammatory, and Ashwagandha, for strength, can be taken internally. Triphala is excellent for detoxifying – keeps the digestive fire (agni) balanced and supports tissue nourishment. A decoction (kwath) of these herbs, prepared and taken daily, can be quite effective too.
Changing lifestyle habits—say, improving your sitting posture at work, doing neck exercises, gentle yoga poses like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)—also make a difference.
People often notice relief in a few weeks, but full benefits can take a few months. Consistency and patience are key. As for side effects, some may feel skin irritation from oils or mild digestive changes, but these are usually manageable.
Always remember, none of this substitutes for medical care when needed, especially if your symptoms are severe. But for many, yeah, these Ayurveda practices can bring profound relief over time.
