Post-surgical recovery, especially after spinal surgery, can indeed be challenging, and I understand your concerns about stiffness and weight gain. Ayurveda offers a holistic approach that can complement your recovery and aid in weight management without straining your back.

Firstly, addressing the stiffness. In Ayurveda, stiffness may be a result of aggravated Vata dosha. Gentle yogic practices can be quite beneficial here. Aim for Sukshma Vyayama — subtle exercises like neck rotations, shoulder warm-ups, and gentle seated twists. These are gentle on the spine yet effective in enhancing mobility. Daily oil massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame or Mahanarayan oil can also help alleviate stiffness. This supports both the muscles and joints, improving circulation too.

For weight management, concentrate on your diet first. Ayurvedic principles emphasize balancing Kapha dosha for weight management. Include more light, warm foods. Opt for plenty of seasonal vegetables, khichari, and green mung dal, which are easy to digest and do not burden your metabolism. Use spices like ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon — these are great for boosting digestion. Avoid heavy, oily, and cold foods.

Focus on maintaining a routine, eat meals at the same time daily to support Agni, your digestive fire. You might want to try Triphala churna at night with warm water to aid digestion and metabolism. Ensure you’re drinking warm water throughout the day to help with dosha balance and to maintain digestion.

Given your fatigue, it might be worth exploring Rasayana herbs like Ashwagandha. It promotes strength and vitality and is often used in post-surgery recovery. Still, consult your Ayurvedic practitioner before trying new herbs, especially since you’re under specific constraints due to your surgery.

Lastly, prioritize rest but keep some schedule. Short walks throughout the day, as much as your doctor allows, will help manage energy levels, improve circulation, and gradually inch you closer to your goals. Your body has experienced a lot, so it’s fine to take things step by step without rushing.
