Lost weight of about 11 kg without even decreasing food intake or any changes in my system over the span of last 1 year. I want to look like my present age again. I feel this might be an indication of something wrong happening inside my body though reports were quite normal apart from Hb around 10.... I do feel weakness in my body too. Would you please help me out

Thank you for contacting Ask Ayurveda…

I can understand how distressing it is to feel that your body looks old so much faster than your actual years, especially when you have been careful with treatment…

What you’re experiencing is not merely a cosmetic concern. It indicates that the body strength, nourishment, and recovery mechanisms are under pressure .

There are a few very important factors that need to be looked at together… You have undergone gall bladder removal, you have a known heart blockage and are on regular medicines, and you have been taking blood pressure tablets for 35 years. Along with this, there has been unexplained weight loss, low hb and persistent weakness.

In Ayurveda, when such changes happen without any dietary restriction, it usually indicates depletion of body tissues rather than a new acute disease. It builds up gradually…

After gall bladder removal, digestion will be impaired . Appetite may be less. Motions may be irregular, the deeper process of digestion and absorption becomes inefficient. Food is eaten in adequate quantity. Here the food consumed is not properly converted into strength. Slowly, the body starts running on reserve.

This leads first to weakness. Then weight loss. Then loss of muscle tone, dryness of skin, and a prematurely aged appearance.

When Ojas in our body declines, a person looks older, feels weak, and tires easily. Even if reports are “acceptable”.

The weight loss of about 11 kg without any change in food intake is particularly important. This is not normal ageing. It suggests loss of muscle and tissue mass rather than fat loss. In Ayurveda, this is a clear sign of mamsa dhatu kshaya . This alone can make the face appear sunken, the body look frail, and the overall appearance much older than the actual age.simple as that .

Regarding your hemoglobin of around 10, while it may be labelled as “mild anemia” in reports, in your situation it is significant. With a history of heart disease, low hemoglobin means reduced oxygen delivery to tissues. This results in fatigue, weakness, breathlessness on exertion, and dull skin.

Your symptoms do not automatically point toward something dangerous ,especially since your reports are otherwise normal. But they do indicate that your body is functioning in a depleted state and is not rebuilding itself properly. This stage is very real. Unfortunately, it is often missed because investigations do not always show abnormalities.

you can start on Punarnavadi mandura 1 BD Ashwagandha Leh 1/2 tsp with warm milk at night Arjuna tab 1 BD Avipattikara churna 1/2 tsp before meals Erand bhristh Haritaki 1 teaspoon with warm milk at night

The good news is that your condition is reversible to a large extent. The aim of treatment should not be “anti-ageing” in a cosmetic sense. That approach does not work here. The focus should be on deep rebuilding and rejuvenation (Rasayana) — improving digestion and absorption, gently nourishing blood and muscle tissues, restoring strength, and rebuilding Ojas. All this while continuing your cardiac and blood pressure medicines safely.

I would strongly advise that this be approached in a gradual.

Please remember this. What you are feeling is your body asking for deeper nourishment and care. It is not giving up. With the right, guidance and some patience, improvement is very much possible.

Warm regards, Dr Prasad

I have been taking ashwaganddha , hingwastaka for last 2 months. Practicing meditation pranayam daily. Surgery pain is still there so cannot do kapalbhati. how long will it take to get awayy with gall bladder surgery pain which was done in last week of august

Generally post surgery the pain lasts for about 2 months… as it was done 4 months ago , if still pain persisting I would suggest you to repeat ultrasound scan And do not do kapalabhathi or any yoga or exercises which is giving pressure to abdomen atleast 6 months post surgery Meanwhile if no improvement with hingwastaka you can take Shanka vati 1 tab twice daily after food

Hello I‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ totally understand your anxiety and emotional turmoil. It is really a scary thing to go through such a situation that you lose weight without trying, feel weak and see that you look much older than your age especially when it is a result of surgery and a long-term medication. But don’t worry, we are here to help you out 😊

YOUR CONCERN

You are undergoing: Age: 52 years Laparoscopic gall bladder removal (Aug 23) Heart blockage (as per angiography) – on cardiac medicines for 1.5 years BP since 35 years – on long-term medication Unintentional weight loss ~11 kg over 1 year Weakness, fatigue, loss of vitality

Looks much older than actual age Low hemoglobin (~10 g/dl) Poor appetite and digestion Limited physical activity due to health issues

Your reports are nearly all normal, but your body is obviously not in good shape.

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING (ROOT CAUSE)

According to Ayurveda, this is a typical Dhatu Kshaya (tissue depletion) situation with very severe Vata aggravation and the aggravation was caused by a combination of factors:

👉After Gall Bladder Removal

The gall bladder is the organ that helps in fat digestion (Pitta & Meda metabolism) When it is removed, digestion becomes weak (Mandagni) Causes: Impaired absorption Weight loss Dryness Weakness Premature aging appearance

👉 Long-term Medication Load BP medicines (35 years) + cardiac medicines

These slowly: Suppress digestive fire Deplete Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa & Meda dhatu Reduce Ojas (vital energy)

👉 Anemia (Hb ~10) Just low hemoglobin can lead to: Severe weakness Weight loss Pale, aged look Hair, skin, and muscle depletion

👉Appetite Loss This is the most important thing. If Agni is weak, even the best food will not nourish the body.

It is not normal aging, not cancer if all the reports are normal, it is just functional exhaustion of the system.

CAN YOU LOOK & FEEL YOUR AGE AGAIN?

Yes. But the approach has to be rebuilding, nourishing, and gentle, not an aggressive detox or fasting.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT PLAN

FIRST GOAL: IMPROVE DIGESTION & ABSORPTION

Without this, nothing will work.

Arogyavardhini Vati – 1-0-1 after food very low dose (supports liver & digestion post-GB surgery) Hingwashtak Churna –¼ tsp with first bite of food Jeerakarishta – 15ml-0-15ml small dose after meals

FOR ANEMIA & WEAKNESS Punarnava Mandura 1-0-1 after food – best for anemia with weakness

These help to rebuild Rakta dhatu and strength.

RASAYANA (ANTI-AGING & REJUVENATION)

Once digestion is good: Ashwagandha Rasayana 1 tsp morning empty stomach – for strength, muscle & nerves

This help to bring back - Glow Facial fullness Muscle tone Energy

DETOX – BUT ONLY GENTLE No strong Panchakarma now

What you need is Deepana–Pachana + Mild Anulomana, not harsh detox Gentle detox is: Regulating bowels Improving liver metabolism Removing Ama slowly Later (after strength improves): Rasayana-based Panchakarma, not cleansing Panchakarma.

DIET (MOST CRITICAL PART)

MUST INCLUDE

Warm, freshly cooked meals Rice, wheat, moong dal Homemade ghee (½–1 tsp/day) Milk (if tolerated) with turmeric Dates, figs soaked overnight Vegetable soups, khichdi

AVOID

Raw salads Dry snacks Intermittent fasting Cold foods & drinks Excess tea/coffee

👉now, light food is your enemy—you need nourishing food.

LIFESTYLE & DAILY ROUTINE

Sleep before 10 pm Gentle morning sunlight Short walks only (no overexertion) Daily Abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame or Bala taila (This alone can reverse aging signs)

INVESTIGATIONS I STRONGLY ADVISE (To rule out hidden causes of weight loss)

CBC with peripheral smear Ferritin Vitamin B12, D3 ESR / CRP Thyroid profile Stool occult blood

WHAT RESULTS YOU CAN EXPECT - Appetite improves in 2–3 weeks - Weight stabilizes in 4–6 weeks - Energy and strength return gradually - Face regains glow & fullness - You start looking closer to your real age

IMPORTANT REASSURANCE

Your condition is not an indication of something grave if all tests are normal. It is a sign of system-wide depletion which Ayurveda is especially good at fixing.

Warm regards, healing & strength to you, Dr Snehal Vidhate ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌

Medicines 1 Prabhakar Vati: 1 tablet twice daily with warm water. 2 Arjunarishta + Draksharishta: Mix 15ml of each (Total 30ml) with 30ml warm water. Take twice daily after food. 3 Ashwagandha Churna: 1 teaspoon boiled in 1 cup of cow milk (or water if milk causes gas). Take once daily at bedtime. 4 Punarnava Mandoor: 2 tablets twice daily after food

Dietary Advice Since you have no gallbladder, your body cannot store bile. You must eat small portions every 3-4 hours. Large meals will not be digested and will cause further weight loss. Increase intake of Moong Dal, Egg Whites, and Vegetable Soups. You need protein to rebuild muscle mass. Eat 1 Pomegranate (Anar) daily. It is the best fruit for the Heart and for increasing Hemoglobin. Use minimal Olive Oil or Cow Ghee (max 1 tsp/day). Avoid fried foods completely as you cannot digest them well anymore.

Lifestyle Advice Do not exert yourself until Hb levels improve. Rest is vital for tissue repair. Sit in mild morning sunlight for 20 minutes to improve absorption.

Please maintain a gap of 45 minutes between these medicines and your Allopathic BP/Heart medications.

For your weakness and aging concerns after gall bladder surgery, particularly considering your heart condition, it’s vital to approach this with utmost care. Your body’s significant weight loss without dietary changes, coupled with weakness, suggests a deeper issue that requires a comprehensive approach. Because of your current medical conditions, particularly with heart blockage and blood pressure concerns, ensure regular consultations with your healthcare provider.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, you may be experiencing an imbalance in your Vata dosha, which can lead to weight loss, aging, and weakness. Ayurveda emphasizes balance through diet, lifestyle, and specific herbal suggestions. To begin, focus on nourishing Agni, your digestive fire, which may have weakened post-surgery. Consuming warm, cooked foods that are easy on digestion might be beneficial. Incorporate ghee into your meals; it’s soothing and nourishing, and can help to strengthen tissues and agni.

Nutritive herbs like Ashwagandha might prove helpful for weakness and rejuvenation. It’s a rasayana, known for its adaptogenic properties, which can support the body under stress and weakness. Should be taken under guidance, preferably as a half-teaspoon of its powder with warm milk in the evening. Ensure it is safe with your current medications.

Diet should be rich in easily digestible proteins and healthy fats. Think lentil soups, mung dal, and khichari; avoiding raw and heavy-to-digest foods can also aid digestion. Start your day with soaked almonds: they are a good source of essential fats that can help with weight.

Gentle yoga and pranayama can help rejuvenate and strenghten the body. Practices like deep breathing can improve overall vitality and support heart health, but proceed cautiously and consult your physician to confirm these are safe for your heart condition.

Monitor your haemoglobin; low levels can contribute to fatigue. Iron-rich foods like beetroot, pomegranate, or black sesame seeds may help. In case of persistent anemia, further evaluate with your physician. Remember, close collaberation between Ayurvedic remedies and allopathic treatments are crucial in your situation. Seek immediate medical assistance if any symptom worsens or you experience new concerning signs.

HELLO,

You are 52 years old, but you feel and look much older. This is not normal aging

WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED INSIDE YOUR BODY? Over the last 1 year, three major events affected your system

1) LONG STANDING ILLNESS -Bp for 35 years -heart blockage for 1.5 years These conditions continuously drain strength and vitality

2) DIGESTIVE SYSTEM DISTURBANCE -gall bladder removal strength -gall bladder helps bile flow-> bile is essential for digestion and absorption of fats and nutrients -after surgery, digestion becomes weak and irregular

3) POOR NOURISHMENT OF TISSUES -Even though you eat, your body is not converting food into strength -Hemoglobin ~10 confirms nutritional depletion

According to Ayurveda

WEAK DIGESTIVE FIRE -food is eaten but not properly digested -nutrients are not absorbed -This leads to weakness, weight loss, and aging look

TISSUE DEPLETION The body has 7 tissues. In you, mainly -Rasa (nutrition and glow) -Rakta (blood) -Mamsa (muscle) -Ojas (vital energy)

These are becoming weak-> hence -weight loss -weakness -pale, aged appreacne

INCREASED VATA DOSHA -Surgery, weight loss, stress, chronic illness all increase vata Vata cause -dryness -weakness -degeneration -premature aging

OJAS DEPLETION OJAS= immunity + vitality + youthful energy -person feels drained -looks much older -recovers slowly

This is NOT cancer or something dangerous , because reports are mostly normal This is a reversible metabolic exhaustion

TREATMENT GOALS -Improve digestion gently (without strain on heart) -improve nutrient absorption -Increase hemoglobin -restore weight and muscle -reduce vata -rebuild strength, glow and youthfullness -improve confidence and quality of life

WE DO NOT DO DETOX OR PANCHAKARMA NOW, AS YOUR BODY IS WEAK

INTERNAL MEDICINES

FOR DIGESTIVE FIRE AND ABSOPRTION

1) HINGWASTAKA CHURNA= 1/2 tsp before meals with warm water for 4-6 weeks =improves digestion, reduces gas, bloating, helps body extract nutrition from food, ver important after gallbladder surgery

2) TRIKATU CHURNA = A pinch after meals with honey for 2 weeks only =stimulates digestion, improves metabolism, helps weight gain by absorption, not fataccumulation

FOR STRENGTH, WEIGHT, AND ANTI AGING

3) ASHWAGANDHA LEHYA= 1 tsp at night with warm milk for 3 months =builds muscle and strength, reduces stress and fatigue, excellent for post surgery weakness, safe for heart when taken properly

4) DRAKSHAVALEHA= 1 tsp in morning for 2 months =improves hemoglobin, gives natural energy, improves appetite gently

FOR ANEMIA

5) PUNARNAVA MANDUR= 1 tab twice daily after meals for 2-3 months =improves blood quality, reduces weakness, supports digestion along with iron

REJUVENATION- AFTER DIGESTION IMPROVES (start after 3-4 weeks)

6) AMALAKI RASAYANA= 1 tsp In morning for 3 months = anti aging, improves immunity, improves skin, hair and glow

7) GUDUCHI SATVA= 250 mg twice daily for 2 months =improves energy, supports heart health, reduces internal inflammation

EXTERNAL THERAPIES

1) OIL MASSAGE= BALA ASHWAGANDHADI TAILA for 3-4 times/week = reduces vata , improves circulation, improves strength and sleep, makes body feel younger

DIET -warm, freshly cooked food -rice, wheat, oats -moong dal, massor dal -cow ghee 1-2 tsp/day -warm milk -stewed fruits apple, papaya -dates, raisins soaked overnight -vegetable soups

AVOID -cold food and drinks -raw salads at night -bakery items -fried foods -excess tea/coffee -skipping meals

Small frequent meals are best after gallbladder surgery

YOGA ASANAS -tadasana -vajrasana -pawamuktasana -shavasana

PRANAYAM -Anulom vilom= 10 min -Bhramari=5 rounds -Avoid kapalbhati too strong

HOME REMEDIES -warm water in morning -milk + turmeric at night -soaked raisins daily -pomegranate juice fresh -ginger + cumin tea for digestion

EXPECTED RECOVERY TIMELINE -APPETITE improvement=2-3 weeks -Energy= 1 month -Weight= 6-10 weeks -HB= 2-3 months -Youthfull appearacne= 2-3 months

You are not aging suddenly Your body is starved of proper nourishment due to weak digestion and tissue depletion

With proper treatment -strength will return -weight will improve -face and body will regain glow -confidence will improve

This condition is reversible

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU
