Experiencing joint pain and stiffness after chikungunya is not unusual, as this condition often leads to prolonged arthralgia due to inflammation. Ayurveda offers several ways to manage and alleviate these symptoms, focusing on balancing the doshas, especially Vata, which is typically aggravated in joint pains.

First, let’s focus on dietary changes: Include warm, easily digestible foods. Opt for soups, khichdi, and stews with spices like turmeric, ginger, and black pepper, which reduce inflammation and improve digestion. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods that can aggravate Vata.

Herbal remedies are beneficial too. Consider taking Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), which is known to support immunity and reduce inflammation. A recommended dosage might be a teaspoon of the powder with warm water twice daily after meals. Shallaki (Boswellia serrata) is another effective herb— often available in capsule form, it helps relieve joint pain.

Daily routines matter! Abhyanga, or self-massage, using warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan oil, once a day can help improve circulation and reduce stiffness. Focus on the joints and massage in circular motions. Do this before taking a warm shower, which can further ease stiffness.

Gentle yoga can be exceptionally helpful too. Practice asanas like Tadasana (mountain pose), Bhujangasana (cobra pose), and Setu Bandhasana (bridge pose) gently, according to your ability. Avoid straining yourself. Pranayama, especially Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), helps calm the mind and balance body energies.

Staying hydrated is vital—drink warm water throughout the day. Add a pinch of ginger or fennel seeds for enhanced digestion and absorption.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, it would be wise to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner or a healthcare professional directly. Sometimes, personalized care is essential for complex or enduring conditions, ensuring both safety and efficacy.
