What smoothies are good for weight gain that can help someone who struggles with appetite? - #22029

Sofia

I am really struggling to put on some weight lately, and I've heard that smoothies might really help. I have a pretty fast metabolism, and it feels like no matter what I eat, I just cant gain any. I’m quite active too, like I go to the gym regularly and all that, but I feel like I’m just burning way too many calories to keep up with what I need to be taking in. I’m tired of feeling underweight, and it’s starting to get to me, honestly. So I was thinking smoothies could be an easier way to get a lot of calories in without feeling like I’m forcing food down. I mean, I like all sorts of flavors, but it's just hard to find the right mix of stuff that doesn’t feel too heavy or too sugary. Anyone know what smoothies are good for weight gain? I’ve heard of adding protein powder, but I don’t want to depend on that too much. I’m also not a huge fan of dairy, so that complicates things a bit. I’m curious if there are specific fruits or nuts I should be throwing into the blender or maybe even greens that won’t mess up the taste. I love bananas and berries, but are there others I should know about that could help? And about nut butters, like is almond butter better than peanut butter for this sort of thing? I’d really appreciate any recommendations because I feel like I need a major boost right now. Plus, I heard adding oats can be good for smoothies too? Is that true? How much should I even be blending together to make it filling enough? There's just so much info out there, it can be super overwhelming! Honestly, I’m just looking for some tried and tested recipes or combinations of what smoothies are good for weight gain that I can whip up quick before or after my workouts. If any of you have successful weight gain journey, please share what you did! I just want to feel more energized and healthier, and smoothies sound like the perfect way to do that. Thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds like you’re navigating the tricky path of trying to gain weight in a healthy way. Smoothies can indeed be a helpful strategy, especially if they align with Ayurvedic principles. Let’s get into some practical suggestions that could support your goals without feeling like a chore.

For a satisfying, nutrient-dense smoothie, consider blending ripe bananas and berries—great for taste and easy digestion. You might add mangoes, a good source of healthy calories and a favorite in Ayurveda for their nourishing qualities. Dates can be useful, too; they’re sweet, grounding, and provide both energy and iron.

Incorporating nuts and seeds is a wise move. Almonds are excellent, rich in healthy fats and proteins, but since you mentioned nuts, almond butter will blend well. Cashews might also be worth considering. They have a creamy texture and are known for supporting healthy weight gain. You might prefer almond butter to peanut butter due to its lighter top note, though both are good options.

Oats are a fantastic addition—they provide fiber, slow-release energy, and can make your smoothies more filling. You’d want to add about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of rolled oats, which is simple enough and should not weigh you (or your stomach) down.

And don’t forget a plant-based milk. Coconut milk offers healthy fats and has a naturally sweet taste. Almond milk or oat milk could serve as a great base without the heaviness of diary. A splash of dates syrup might add a bit more richness, just be cautious of the quantity to avoid over-sweetness—Ayurveda emphasizes balance.

If you fancy some greens, spinach or kale can be fine, but use them sparingly to maintain the flavor balance. Sneaking in a few fresh mint leaves can add a refreshing twist.

For a boost without relying too heavily on protein powders, an Ayurvedic approach would suggest using natural herbal powders like ashwagandha—known for its adaptogenic properties and potential to support overall vitality.

You might find preparing this smoothie post-workout helps with muscle recovery and energy.

Additionally, if you’re interested in exploring further Ayurvedic practices, consider including warming spices like cinnamon or cardamom, known to kindle agni—the digestive fire. A pinch is all you need.

Finally, remember the Ayurvedic principle of mindful consumption: instead of gulping down your smoothie, try to sip it slowly while being aware of its nourishing effect. This can aid in better digestion and absorption of nutrients. All these tips together might just give you the healthy weight gain boost you’re looking for!
