Can Fennel Really Help Increase Breast Milk Production? - #22098

Wyatt

I am kinda worried about my milk supply lately. I’ve been reading that fennel can help with increasing breast milk, but I’m not sure if that’s true. I had my baby about 3 months ago, and at first, everything was fine. My milk was flowing, and I felt like a champ breastfeeding! But now, I feel like my supply is dipping, and it's been stressing me out. I’ve tried a few things, like more frequent feedings and pumping, but it’s been tough! So, I read online that fennel can increase breast milk. I mean, I love the flavor in my cooking! But I keep wondering, does fennel really increase breast milk like they say? Can eating it, or even sipping on fennel tea, actually help me produce more milk? Also, do I need to worry about any side effects or interactions with other things I’m eating? I see some people suggesting using fennel as a spice, or even taking it in supplement form, but not sure what's best. It’s just frustrating — I want to make sure my baby is getting enough, and the idea of relying on fennel to increase breast milk is kinda iffy in my mind. Anyone had experiences with this? Like, did fennel increase breast milk for you? Or should I be looking into other options? Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

Hey dear, Fennel seeds definitely increases the quality and quantity of milk. You can take Fennel Seeds for Breast Milk in following ways- 1. Fennel Seed Tea.-Boil 1 tsp of fennel seeds in 1.5 cups of water.Simmer for 5–10 minutes, then strain and sip warm. Drink this 1–2 times daily. 2. As a Spice in Food. 3. Chewing Fennel Seeds Other things which would be helpfull -*Skin-to-skin contact helps boost oxytocin and milk letdown. *Frequent feeding or pumping tells your body to make more milk. Oats, fenugreek, moringa, cumin, and ajwain are also helpful herbs/spices for lactation. Stay hydrated, nourished, and as rested as possible (easier said than done, I know)

Fennel is often recommended in Ayurveda as a galactagogue, which means it can help promote or increase breast milk production. Its seeds contain phytoestrogens, plant compounds that may mimic the hormone estrogen, which plays a role in stimulating the production of milk. So, consuming fennel either in your diet or as tea, could potentially be beneficial for you. You might try adding fennel seeds in your cooking or preparing a fennel tea. To make the tea, you can steep 1-2 teaspoons of crushed fennel seeds in hot water for about 10 minutes. Drink this 2-3 times a day after meals to support digestion and milk production. You can also include it as a spice in curries, salads, or other dishes you enjoy. Considering side effects, fennel is generally safe in moderate amounts. However, high doses could potentially interfere with other medications or cause mild digestive issues. It's a good idea to start with small amounts and see how yur body responds. Aside from fennel, enhancing your milk supply can also depend on ensuring a balanced diet rich in nutrients, managing stress, and getting adequate rest. Hydration is key, too—so drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you're open to it, practices like yoga and pranayama can help balance your Vata dosha, which could be contributing to the dip in supply, as stress is often a factor in Vata imbalance. Techniques like belly breathing or alternate nostril breathing can promote relaxation. Should you continue experiencing difficulties, consulting with a lactation consultant might be beneficial to address any nuances or techniques in breastfeeding. Always remember, though, every body is different; what works for some might not work for others, so being patient with yourself is also really important.
