I am really curious about how to make dalia. So, I've been trying to eat healthier lately, and I heard about this dish. A friend mentioned it can be super filling and good for digestion or something like that? But honestly, I have no clue where to start! The other day, I was at the grocery store, and I had this whole bag of dalia in my hand, but I just put it back cause I didn't know how to cook it. I've tried looking it up, but the recipes seem so complicated — or maybe it's just me being lazy. 😅 Do I need to soak it first or just boil it? I've seen some recipes with veggies or nuts added, but is that essential? I wanna keep it simple, but I'm worried it won't taste good. If anyone has a reliable and quick way on how to make dalia, please share! Also, how long does it take to cook? Just need something easy for a busy week ahead. Appreciate any tips!

Dalia is a type of cracked wheat, and it’s quite versatile, making it an excellent choice for meals aimed at boosting digestion and overall health. Here’s a straightforward way to prepare it, keeping both taste and ease in mind.

Starting off, you’ll be glad to know that dalia doesn’t need pre-soaking. It cooks fairly quickly and is simple to prepare. For a very basic preparation, begin by rinsing about a cup of dalia under cold water. This helps in removing any excess dust or impurities. Then, heat two tablespoons of ghee (clarified butter) in a pan. Ghee is excellent for balancing all the doshas, according to Ayurveda, and aids in digestion.

Once the ghee is heated, you can then add the rinsed dalia into the pan and roast it for about 5 minutes on medium heat. This intensifies its nutty flavor. After roasting, add three cups of water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat, cover the pan, and allow it to simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes until the dalia becomes soft and absorbs the water. Stir occasionally to make sure it isn’t sticking to the bottom of your pan.

Since you’re inclined to keep it simple but possibly add flavor, consider sprinkling a bit of cumin or a pinch of turmeric while boiling the dalia. These Ayurvedic spices not only enhance the taste but also support digestive health. If you feel adventurous, adding some steamed veggies like carrots, peas, or beans can add color and a nutritional boost without complicating things too much.

Now, about adding nuts or more elaborate ingredients: it’s not essential, especially if you’re looking for a quick meal. However, topping your dalia with a few crushed almonds or some raisins could add a nice texture and sweetness, if you fancy.

Making plain dalia as described shouldn’t take you more than 25 minutes, perfect for those busy days. Remember, the joy with dalia is its adaptability. You can try different combinations once you’re comfortable with the basic recipe. So give it a try and see how you like it!
