does curd increase weight - #23452

Jaxon

I am really curious about this whole idea of whether curd increases weight or not. So, here’s the thing. I’ve always enjoyed having curd with my meals, like chai and even raita with rice, but lately, I’ve read some articles saying that it might actually lead to weight gain. I mean, I don’t want to stop having something I love, but I also don't want to pack on extra pounds! I’m trying to lose a few kilos, but honestly, sometimes it’s tough! I keep thinking about this, especially after my last visit to the doctor, who said my cholesterol is a bit high—like 5.5. I've started exercising, but I feel like I'm constantly battling portion control. So back to curd—does curd increase weight? If so, how much is too much? Are there certain types of curd that are better or worse for managing weight? Really hoping to find a balance here! Thanks, guys!

Curd, or yogurt is a common part of many diets due to its rich nutritional profile and it's potential in aiding digestion. In Ayurveda, curd is considered a sattvic food but it’s important to remember that the impact of curd on weight depends on several factors including quantity, time, and how it's prepared and consumed. Curd can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess or if it's processed with added sugars or full-fat cream. Incorporating curd in moderation is key, around half to one cup daily is generally considered balanced. Opt for homemade or plain unsweetened curd. Avoid flavored or sweetened varieties as they can have higher sugar content, adding to calorie intake. Time is also crucial in Ayurveda; consuming curd at night is typically discouraged as it could increase mucus formation and affect digestion. Instead, have curd during lunch when digestion is stronger, enhancing absorption of nutrients without burdening the system. To enhance its benefits, consider adding digestive spices like cumin or coriander while preparing your curd dish. Balancing your prakriti, or natural constitution, is significant too. If you are of a Kapha constitution, known for a relatively slower metabolism, limiting curd intake is advisable as it is heavy and can aggravate Kapha. Vata types, on the other hand, might benefit from the grounding and nutritive quality of curd, in moderation. For pitta dosha, curd should be consumed carefully due to its sour nature. Keep exercise and moderation in portion size consistent as part of your weight management journey. Along with dietary adjustments, continuing the regular exercise and monitoring your portion sizes can significantly assist in achieving your desired weight goals. Ensuring you prepared curd is from quality milk sources, can further support this process. If your cholesterol remains a concern, consult a healthcare provider for a tailored approach that includes potential cholesterol-friendly herbs like Guggulu, accordingly.
