For a glomus tumor, especially on the finger, surgery is typically the standard treatment, which your doctor has rightly indicated. However, as an Ayurvedic physician, I can provide some complementary lifestyle and dietary advice, though I must stress that these should supplement medical treatment, not replace it.
Focus on reducing inflammation and promoting healthy tissue through diet and lifestyle. Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods, which include turmeric (Curcuma longa), known for its active compound curcumin, which may help manage inflammation. Include it in your meals as a spice or in the form of warm turmeric milk taken at night.
Applying external paste of turmeric and neem powder may support skin health and alleviate minor discomfort. Mix equal parts of turmeric and neem powder with ghee or coconut oil to form a paste, and apply gently on the area for 15-20 minutes once a day. Be sure to monitor the skin for any irritation and discontinue if redness or discomfort occurs.
Internally, Vata balancing is key. Regular consumption of warm, cooked meals can support digestive fire (agni). Soups, stews, and kitchari are excellent choices. Avoid cold, raw foods which can aggravate Vata dosha.
Meditation and gentle yoga practices can be beneficial for stress management, which may indirectly support the body’s healing processes. Avoid strain on the affected area during physical activities to lessen irritation or injury.
These suggestions are supportive; they do not replace conventional treatment. If you experience a worsening of symptoms or are uncertain, it’s crucial to seek prompt medical attention. Always keep your healthcare provider informed before starting new remedies, ensuring a collaborative approach to your health.
HELLO BIRENDRA,
A gloms tumort is -A small usually benign growth- non cancerous -Often found under finger nails or fingertips like in your case on the index finger of your left hand -Comes from gloms bodies, which are tiny structures that help regulate blood flow and temperature in fingers
SYMPTOMS -severe pain, often triggered by cold or pressure -sometimes sensitivity to touch -rarely it may slowly enlarge
These tumors are not life threatening , but pain can be intense -surgery is the standard treatment because removing the tumor fully usually cures it. -Recurrence can happen if the tumor is not completely removed -there are no proven medicines to dissolve it completely, but supportive care can reduce pain, swelling, and sensitivty
TREATMENT GOALS Ayurveda views small nodules like this as "Granthi " (benign swellings) due to vata-kapha imbalance
-reduce pain and inflammation -prevent tumor growth or recurrence as much as possible -improve local circulation in fingers -strengthen tissues and restore function -maintain overall health to prevent imbalance that could contribute to swelling
INTERNAL TREATMENT
1) ASHWAGANDHA = 1 tsp with warm milk at bedtime =strengthen tissues, balances vata, reduce weakness, supports healing
2) GUDUCHI GHAN VATI= 1 tab twice daily after meals =reduces swelling, supports immunity
3) GUGGULU= 500mg tab twice daily after meals =reduces inflammation in tissues
4) TURMERIC POWDER= 1/2 tsp with warm milk at night =pain and inflammation relief
5) SHALLAKI CAPSULE= 500mg twice daily after meals =pain relief and tissue protection
6) CHANDRAPRABHA VATI= 125 m 3 times daily =promotes microcirculation
DURATION= usually 4-8 weeks for initial symptom control
EXTERNAL TREATMENT
A) MEDICATED OILS -KSHEERBALA TAILA - gently massage around not directly on the tumor =reduce vata related pain and stiffness
B) WARM COMPRESS WITH -Turmeric + manjistha powder + warm water -applied 15-20 min daily to reduce swelling
Avoid applying cold packs, cold triggers pain
C) LOCAL CARE -keep the finger protected from trauma avoid tights gloves or pressure on the fingertip
LIFESTYLE RECOMMENDATIONS -protect fingers from cold - wear gloves -avoid repeated trauma or pressure -gentle hand exercises without pressing the tumor to maintain mobility -sleep in a relaxed position ; avoid hand compression
YOGA AND PRANAYAM Yoga helps improve circulation, reduce vata imbalance, and manage stress
PRANAYAM -Anulom vilom= balances vata and kapha -Bhramari= reduces stress and promotes circulation
GENTLE YOGA ASANAS -Tadasana= improves overall blood circulation -Hand stretch exercises= open and close fingers gently
Avoid intense weight bearing on fingers
DIET -wat warm, cooked foods = soups, stews, khichdi -include ginger, black pepper, turmeic -avoid cold drinks, raw foods, ice and excessive sweets -Hydration= warm water or herbal teas -Moderate protein intake= milk, lentils, mild spices
HOME REMEDIES -turmeric + honey paste on skin around the finger (not directly on tumor) for mild anti-inflammatory effect -warm sesame oil massage around the finger -warm water soak for 15 min to reduce stiffness
-Glomus tutors are painful but benign -surgery is the only proven cure , but Ayurveda can help –reduce pain –improve tissue health – possibly slow progression
-Close monitoring is essential. If pain worsens, tumor. grows, or function decreases , surgery should not be delayed -Ayurveda should be used as supportive , not alternative, unless surgery is impossible -Avoid self injury or unproven remedies claiming to “shrink” the tumor
DO FOLLOW
HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL
THANK YOU
DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
Glomus tumors, being small vascular tumors, can pose significant discomfort or pain, especially when pressure is applied. Surgery is often recommended for their removal, as it directly addresses the tumor. In Siddha-Ayurveda, while the treatments focus on balancing the body’s energies and improving overall health, these methods may not remove the tumor but can potentially support patient pre- or post-operatively in managing symptoms and recovery. It’s essential to prioritize professional medical advice for something like a tumor due to its complexity.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, enhancing the body’s natural healing processes could be beneficial. You might consider incorporating some herbal formulations to support your overall health. Possible general remedies include using turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and neem which is often associated with purifying the blood. You could make a paste of turmeric and neem powder with a small amount of water and apply it externally to the affected area, being careful to avoid any broken skin.
Diet wise, following a Pitta-pacifying diet might help to reduce inflammation. This includes consuming more cooling foods like cucumbers and bitter vegetables; avoid overly spicy, salty, or sour foods. Keeping your digestive fire or agni balanced by eating at regular times and avoiding heavy, hard-to-digest foods could also indirectly support your recovery and overall health.
Before beginning any new treatment, especially topical ones, check with your healthcare provider to ensure it doesn’t interfere with any ongoing medical treatments. Remember, while Ayurvedic methods can complement traditional treatment, they shouldn’t replace standard medical practices where urgent care is necessary.
