does masturbation increase height - #36521

Joshua

I am really curious about something that's been on my mind for a while now. I’m 17, a bit of a late bloomer, and I feel like I'm way shorter than my friends. I recently heard this talk about how certain things can affect height—like, does masturbation increase height or something? Seems odd, right? I mean, I honestly can’t tell if I’m just overthinking this, but I’ve read a few forums where people casually mentioned that there’s a link, and I was like, "Wait, what?!" I don't want to believe everything I read online, but sometimes when I go through these phases where I do it more often, I feel like my growth might slow down? Or is that just in my head? In school, everyone's already talking about being tall and I’ve already had my growth spurt kinda late. I'm only about 5'4", and I want to know if there's any truth to this "does masturbation increase height" thing or if it’s all just myths? Maybe there’s something I can do, like a yoga routine or a diet tweak or something, to help with my growth? Really wanna get some solid answers from people who know what they’re talking about! Anyone got any insight on this?

Doctors' responses

The idea that masturbation can increase or decrease height is purely a myth with no scientific foundation. Height is largely determined by genetics, and while some environmental factors can influence growth, masturbation is not one of them. The belief that it affects height is just a misconception; it does not have any proven effect on a person’s growth.

Growth during teenage years occurs mainly due to hormonal changes that stimulate the growth plates in your bones, and this continues until they close, which is generally by the late teens to early twenties. It’s perfectly normal to have growth spurts at different times compared to peers, particularly if you describe yourself as a “late bloomer”. Genetics largely decides your height potential, and while lifestyle choices can support reaching your maximum potential, they cannot change your natural limit.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, maintaining balance within your body can help support natural growth processes. Ensuring a balanced diet rich in calcium, proteins, and other essential nutrients supports bone health and overall development. Adding foods like milk, almonds, leafy greens, sesame seeds, and legumes can be beneficial. Incorporate a regular practice of yoga, which not only strengthens muscles and improves posture but also enhances body awareness and flexibility. Asanas like Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) are particularly beneficial for promoting overall health and flexibility, possibly supporting that final growth spurt.

Don’t forget the importance of good sleep, as growth hormones are primarily secreted during deep sleep, and manage stress positively as Ayurveda emphasizes the role of mental peace (sattva). If you’re trying to enhance your growth potential, focusing on overall health and habits will be more beneficial than worrying about myths associated with masturbation. However, if you have concerns about your growth, it’s always prudent to consult a healthcare professional to explore if there might be other considerations in your specific situation.
