Hello I can understand your concern regarding frozen shoulder But dont worry we are here to help you out😊

✅ BEST AYURVEDIC OIL FOR FROZEN SHOULDER

1. Mahanarayana Taila –Most Recommended

Deeply penetrative and nourishing to muscles and joints Relieves stiffness, pain, and nerve compression Ideal for abhyanga (massage) and nadi sweda (steam therapy)

Usage: Warm the oil slightly, apply over shoulder and upper back, massage gently for 15–20 minutes, followed by hot fomentation (steam or warm towel). Do this daily at night before sleep for 3–4 weeks.

2. Kottamchukkadi Taila – Best for pain with stiffness and Kapha dominance Excellent anti-inflammatory, vata-kapha nashak Improves shoulder joint flexibility Used in Kerala therapies like Pizhichil and Patra Pinda Sweda Usage: Warm application + mild massage + hot fomentation. Good for chronic shoulder stiffness and heaviness.

3. Sahacharadi Taila – For radiating pain or nerve involvement Strengthens nerves and improves mobility Helpful if pain extends from shoulder to neck or arm Massage over affected area twice daily, followed by mild heat.

✅SUGGESTED COMBINATION

For your condition (moderate pain, 6+ months history, movement restriction):

Morning: Massage with Mahanarayana Taila → Hot fomentation (Nadi Sweda / towel steam)

Night: Local gentle massage with Kottamchukkadi Taila before sleep

👉 If pain radiates to neck or arm → Alternate with Sahacharadi Taila.

✅ Diet & Lifestyle Advice

Include: Warm, oily foods (ghee, sesame oil), moong dal, soups Avoid: Cold foods, dry snacks, fermented food, and fasting Drink warm water with pinch of dry ginger (sunthi) Gentle shoulder rotations in warm water after massage Avoid cold exposure, AC air directly on shoulder, and heavy lifting

Frozen shoulder = Amsa Sandhigata Vata. Best oil: Mahanarayana Taila (for deep nourishment) Alternate: Kottamchukkadi Taila (for stiffness + pain) Add: Hot fomentation daily

Regular snehana and mild stretching will restore smooth movement gradually.

Wishing you a good health😊

Warm Regards, Dr. Snehal Vidhate

HELLO,

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) means the tissues around your shoulder joint get inflamed and thickened , making movement painful and stiff. -This makes the shoulder capsule more likely to become tight, leading to pain and difficulty lifting the arm. -Often it starts in one shoulder and then the other may get involved

SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE -Dull or aching pain, worse at night -Stiffness- can’t lift hand overhead, can’t comb hair, can’t reach behind back -Three stages :- Freezing (pain more, movement less)-> frozen (stiffness dominates)-> Thawing (slow recovery)

AYURVEDIC VIEW -Called Avabahuka in Ayurveda- a vata disorder in the shoulder region

TREATMENT GOALS -reduce pain and inflamamtion -improve shoulder mobility -correct vata-kapha imbalance -strengthen muscles and tendons around the shoulder

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) YOGARAJ GUGGULU= 2 tabs twice daily after food (6-8 weeks) =reduces pain , stiffness, balances vata

2) MAHARASNADI KASHAYA= 30 ml with warm water twice daily after meals for 2 months =improves joint mobility, reduces inflamation

3) DASHMOOLA KASHAYA= 15ml with warm water twice daily before meals for 2 months =relieves stiffness, clears vata from joints

EXTERNAL THERAPIES

1) OIL MASSAGE= - with mahanarayan taila = warms joint, reduces pain -Kottamchukadi taila= anti inflammatory -sahacharadi taila= strengthen nerves and reduces pain -mahavishagarbha taila= reduces pain reduces stiffness

2) Steam fomentation= loosens stiffness

3) HERBAL PASTE= with dashmoola powder mixed in warm castor oil for local releif

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -avoid cold exposure, cold foods, or sudden jerky shoulder movements -warm baths and gentle stretching help reduce stiffness -keep a regular sleep pattern - irregular sleep aggravates vata

DIET -Favour warm , light, freshly cooked meals -use spices like ginger, turmeric, fenugreek, cinnamon, black pepper -include bitter and astringent tastes bitter gourd, methi leaves -avoid refined sugar, sweets, bakery, fried junk, excess dairy -take more green leafy vegetables, whole grains , pulses, barley, millets -drink warm water avoid cold water , ice

YOGA ASANAS (gentle, not forceful) -tadasana (stretching arms overhead gently) -gomukhasana = for shoulder mobility -paschim namaskar -garudasana arms. for shoulder stretch -shoulder rotations, pendulum exercises daily

PRANAYAM -Anulom vilom= balances vata -Bhramari= calms mind, reduces stress

HOME REMEDIES -warm compress on the shoulder daily -gentle massage with warm sesame oil or castor oil -turmeric milk with a pinch of black pepper if digestion allows -fenugrrek seeds soaked overnight, chew in morning- anti inflammatory -regular shoulder mobility exercises (don’t keep the shoulder completely still)

-Frozen shoulder usually takes 1-2 years to resolve naturally, but with good Ayurvedic management + physiotherapy , recovery is much faster -Don’t stop moving the shoulder completely, gentle, regular mobility is key.

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

External Applications Maharasnadi Taila: As above. Dashamoola Lepa: Mix powder with warm water → apply on shoulder → leave 30 min → rinse → nightly.

Diet Give only: Moong khichdi + 1 tsp ghee. Warm soups (lauki, pumpkin). Banana, pomegranate. Avoid completely: Cold drinks, curd, heavy meals. Overhead work.

Lifestyle Pendular swings 50 reps × 3 daily. Avoid sleeping on affected side. Sleep 10 PM – 6 AM.

In Ayurveda, addressing a frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, involves balancing the Vata dosha, which tends to be aggravated in such conditions. The application of warming and nourishing oils can assist in alleviating stiffness and enhancing movement.

For your concerns, Mahanarayana Taila is often recommended. This classical Ayurvedic oil is revered for its ability to pacify Vata and provide deep nourishment to the tissues, promoting joint flexibility. To use it, warm the oil slightly—just enough to be comfortably applied on your skin. Massage it gently onto the shoulder area, focusing on the back side where you experience movement restriction. Do this ideally in the morning or evening when you have some leisure time, allowing the oil to penetrate and work effectively. Follow the application with a hot compress or warm towel to facilitate oil absorption into the deeper tissues.

Beyond Mahanarayana Taila, Dhanvantaram Taila is another option—it’s especially beneficial in combination with mild heat application. Both oils can be found commonly at Ayurvedic stores or online. Do ensure the quality is authentic, as potency can vary.

While external application can be quite beneficial, internal balance also plays a crucial role. Ensure your diet is warm and nourishing, avoiding foods that are cold, dry, and raw. Incorporate spices like ginger and cumin to aid digestion and stimulate Agni, your digestive fire.

In addressing the limited success with physiotherapy alone, combining these Ayurvedic practices might offer holistic relief. However, ensure you’re continuing physiotherapy too, as it’s important to maintain joint mobility. Should symptoms persist or worsen, consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner could offer further personalized options. Remember, healing often requires a blend of approaches tailored to your individual constitution.
