Doctors' responses

Premature ejaculation can be a source of frustration, but Ayurveda offers various ways to help address this issue. First and foremost, understand that premature ejaculation can involve an imbalance of the Vata dosha. This dosha is responsible for movement and activity within the body, including the nervous system function.

Try observing your daily routine; irregularities may be exacerbating your condition. Sleep and waking times should be consistent, promoting a sense of routine and balance for Vata. Ensure you’re getting enough rest—around seven to eight hours of quality sleep.

Diet plays a key role too. Focus on grounding, warming foods that pacify Vata. Include sweet, sour, and salty tastes in your meals, think of cooked vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes, and grains like rice. Avoid excessively spicy, bitter, or astringent foods that can provoke Vata.

On the herbal side, Ashwagandha and Shatavari are well-regarded for their Vata balancing and particularly beneficial for reproductive health. Taking about 5 grams of Ashwagandha powder mixed with warm milk or water twice daily is recommended. Shatavari can be similarly dosed, nurturing both body and mind.

Regular exercise helps, but avoid very intense workouts that might stress the body further. Gentle yoga can be suitable, fostering mind-body unity. Pranayama (breathing exercises) is particularly beneficial for calming the mind and enhancing prana.

Practice mindfulness or meditation to cultivate present-moment awareness and reduce anxiety, which often exacerbates premature ejaculation. Techniques such as controlled breathing and focused relaxation before intimacy can assist in managing excitement levels.

While these practices align with Ayurvedic principles, they aren’t a substitute for medical advise. If concerns persist or impact your quality of life significantly, consulting healthcare professionals or a therapist may be necessary to explore deeper rooted issues.
