How effective is Ayurveda for weight gain in naturally building muscle and strength? - #13587

Anonymously

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with being underweight. I’m 28 years old, 5’9”, and my weight barely touches 50 kg. No matter how much I eat, I just don’t seem to gain weight. My metabolism is ridiculously fast, and even if I eat high-calorie foods, my body doesn’t seem to hold onto it. I’ve tried protein shakes, gym workouts, and even increasing my meal portions, but nothing has worked long-term. Someone suggested I try Ayurveda for weight gain, saying that my body might be out of balance according to Ayurvedic principles. Apparently, being underweight could be due to an excess of Vata dosha, which affects digestion and nutrient absorption. I’ve been reading about herbs like Ashwagandha, Shatavari, and Yashtimadhu, which are commonly used in Ayurveda for weight gain. Some articles even mention Panchakarma therapies to strengthen digestion and help with better nutrient absorption. But I have so many questions! Has anyone here successfully used Ayurveda for weight gain? If so, what worked for you? Did you take herbal supplements, or did you follow a specific Ayurvedic diet? I’ve read that ghee, milk, and dates are highly recommended, but I’m not sure how much and when to take them. Also, do Ayurvedic weight gain treatments work for muscle growth, or is it just about adding fat to the body? I don’t want to gain unhealthy weight—I’d prefer to gain strength and build muscle naturally. Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has used Ayurveda for weight gain successfully. What should I start with? And how long does it take to see results?

Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to weight gain, especially if your metabolism is fast and you're struggling to maintain weight. Based on your symptoms (Vata imbalance), here are some recommendations: 1. Ayurvedic Herbs for Weight Gain: Ashwagandha: Helps reduce stress and boost appetite, while also promoting muscle growth and healthy weight gain. Shatavari: Balances hormones, enhances digestion, and supports the reproductive system. It's often used to strengthen the body's ability to retain nutrients. Yashtimadhu: Known for improving digestive health and nutrient absorption, this herb can help your body absorb the calories you’re consuming. 2. Panchakarma: Panchakarma therapies can be effective in balancing the doshas and improving digestion. Treatments like Abhyanga (oil massage) and Basti (medicated enemas) can strengthen the digestive system, helping your body absorb nutrients more efficiently. 3. Diet Tips: Eat warm, nourishing meals rich in healthy fats, proteins, and carbs. Include ghee, milk, nuts, and seeds to boost calorie intake. Avoid raw, cold, or light foods that can aggravate Vata. 4. Lifestyle Changes: Regular meals and snacks throughout the day will support better digestion. Gentle yoga and breathing exercises can help stimulate digestion and improve nutrient absorption. 5. Consult an Ayurvedic Practitioner: It's important to consult a practitioner who can tailor the herbs, diet, and therapies to your specific needs.
