Since both you and your younger brother are experiencing premature greying at a young age without a family history, it could be due to nutritional deficiencies, stress, pollution, or hormonal imbalance.
Premature greying of hair can be quite distressing, especially at a young age like yours and your brother’s. In Ayurvedic perspective, premature greying (palitya) is often linked to imbalances in Pitta dosha or aggravated Pitta. To tackle this issue, we’ll focus on pacifying Pitta and nourishing the hair.
First, diet plays a crucial role. Ensure you both consume plenty of green leafy vegetables, fruits like amla (Indian gooseberry), and good sources of protein like lentils and nuts. Amla is particularly beneficial as it is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, helping to balance Pitta and nourish hair roots. You can consume amla juice daily or include dried amla in your diet.
Next, incorporating herbs like Bhringraj and Brahmi can work wonders. You can apply Bhringraj oil or herbal hair oil on your scalp 2-3 times a week; it not only nourishes your hair but also improves hair pigmentation. Brahmi is often available in the form of powder or capsule which you can take under guidance of a practitioner.
Stress also often contributes to greying, although not a genetic issue here, managing stress is important. We recommend practicing regular yoga and meditation to maintain mental balance.
Avoid hot water baths or excessive hair drying techniques, as heat may aggravate Pitta, leading to more hair greying. Moisturize your scalp with natural oils instead.
Limit intake of spicy, oily, and fried foods which tend to aggravate Pitta. Drinking plenty of water keeps the body hydrated and flushes out toxins that could contribute to hair problems.
Lastly, get sufficient sleep as it’s vital to rejuvenate body and maintain health. While these measures may not be instantly effective, with consistent practice, they should help reduce further greying and support healthy hair growth.
If the greyhair continues or is severe, do consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide personalized guidance.
