A persistent sour or metallic taste, particularly linked to GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), can indeed be quite unsettling. In Ayurveda, such conditions are often related to an imbalance in Pitta and Vata dosha, affecting the digestive system or Agni. Let’s explore what you might consider following in terms of Ayurvedic strategies.

First and foremost, pay attention to your diet. Aim to avoid foods that are spicy, oily, or acidic, as these can aggravate Pitta. Favor cooling, mildly sweet foods like cucumber, coconut water, or mint. Incorporate astringent foods like pomegranate—these help balance Pitta and promote a healthy digestive environment, possibly easing the persistent sour taste.

It might be useful to include herbs such as Amla or Indian Gooseberry in your routine; it’s known to pacify Pitta and be gentle on digestion. You can take an Amla supplement daily or simply consume fresh Amla. Also, Triphala churna is recommended at night; it aids digestion, detoxifies, and balances Vata-Pitta.

Don’t underestimate lifestyle adjustments. Practice Pranayama to reduce stress and calm Vata dosha. Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) can be done for about 5 minutes each morning. Stress management is crucial, as IBS often flares with stress.

Also, timing your meals might help. Eat small, frequent meals instead of consuming large meals in one setting; it eases burden on the stomach. After meals, avoid lying down immediately, it might intensify GERD symptoms. Instead, a gentle walk post meal aids digestion;

Avoid cold drinks with meals, which can put off digestive fire. Instead, opt for warm water or ginger tea—it can soothe the stomach, supporting digestion. If the symptoms persist, or worsen, please consider reaching out to a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who could assess your unique prakriti (constitution).

Remember, these steps may take time, consistency is key, and always prioritize safety by consulting healthcare professionals if needed; never hesitate to reach emergency care in case of severe and sudden symptoms.
