I am currently working as an Associate Professor and Ayurvedic Consultant at a reputed Ayurvedic medical college in Karnataka. My dual role in academics and clinical practice allows me to stay deeply connected with both the foundational principles of Ayurveda and their real-world application in patient care. With years of experience in teaching and treating patients, I have developed a strong grounding in classical Ayurvedic texts as well as hands-on expertise in managing a wide spectrum of health conditions. In my academic role, I am involved in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding them through theoretical understanding, clinical training, and practical application of Ayurvedic medicine. I actively participate in departmental research, workshops, and case discussions, fostering a learning environment that emphasizes both scientific inquiry and traditional wisdom. As a consultant, I provide holistic Ayurvedic care for chronic lifestyle disorders, musculoskeletal problems, women’s health issues, gastrointestinal diseases, and skin disorders. My treatment plans are deeply personalized, based on a thorough assessment of Prakriti (body constitution) and Vikriti (imbalance), integrating herbal medicine, Panchakarma therapies, dietary advice, and preventive health strategies. I strongly believe in the importance of patient education and preventive care. Whether I am managing a complex condition or offering day-to-day wellness support, my aim is always to treat the root cause and promote long-term healing. I also collaborate with fellow practitioners and students to stay updated with advancements in Ayurvedic research and contribute meaningfully to the field. Hemiplegia you've been dealing with can be challenging, and spasticity in your fingers makes it harder. Ayurveda offers some holistic approaches that might help. To start, it's beneficial to understand that such conditions are often associated with a vata imbalance. Vata, when aggravated, can lead to issues related to nerves and muscles. One effective Ayurvedic therapy is *Panchakarma*, specifically *Abhyanga*, which is a warm oil massage. Use sesame oil, which is particularly good for pacifying vata. Warm the oil slightly and apply it in gentle, circular motions on your hand and arm, concentrating on the joints and tendons for about 15-20 minutes daily. You might find it best to do this in the morning or before bed. Follow this with a warm compress to enhance absorption of the oil. In terms of herbal medication, *Ashwagandha* is often recommended for its ability to soothe the nervous system. Consider taking Ashwagandha churna (powder) - about a teaspoon with warm milk, preferably in the evening. However, please consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herbal supplement to ensure it's appropriate for your specific condition. Yoga and meditation can also play a supportive role in rehabilitation. Simple stretches and gentle hand exercises, like trying to open and close your fingers in warm water, can be beneficial. Incorporating pranayama (breathing exercises), such as Nadi Shodhana, can aid in calming the mind and reducing stress, which often aggravates conditions like spasticity. Dietary wise, focus on vata-pacifying foods. Warm, cooked meals like soups and stews with spices like cumin, ginger, and turmeric can be nourishing and balancing. Avoid cold or dry foods which increase vata. Try to maintain a regular routine with adequate rest and avoid excess screen time which can aggravate vata. Remember, progress might be gradual, but consistency can lead to improvement. If any new symptoms arise, or conditions worsen, consult a healthcare provider.
