So, how does it work? When you administer an oil enema, the oil gets absorbed by the mucous membranes in the colon, lubricating, nourishing and ultimately easing the passage of waste. It’s a bit like oiling a squeaky wheel! Commonly, medicated oils like sesame oil or a mix with dashamoola are used; they’re deeply penetrating and grounding. It’s kind of custom too, sometimes Bala or other herbs are added depending on the situation.

Timing’s important. Doing this once during the day, often early morning, ensures the best results. But it ain’t a daily thing — typically once or twice a week is good for moderate issues. But keep in mind, oil enema isn’t a DIY straight-off-the-bat solution. It’s best to have a qualified practitioner guide how you do it, at least initially.
