Feeling like your mind is out of control can be overwhelming, and integrating both mind relaxation exercises and a body detoxification could really help. Let’s dive into a few practices and dietary suggestions that might suit you well. Start your day with a simple breathing exercise known as Nadi Shodhana, which is alternate nostril breathing. Sit comfortably, place your right thumb over the right nostril, inhale through the left, then switch to exhale through the right nostril. Continue this for about 5-10 minutes each morning. This technique helps calm the mind and balances the right and left hemispheres of the brain. For body detox, focus on a diet that lightens your digestive load and cleanses ama, or toxins, from your system. Incorporate warm foods like kichari made of mung dal, rice, and spices like cumin and coriander–these are gentle on the digestion and help clear toxins. Also, drink warm water with a slice of ginger throughout the day to support your agni, or digestive fire. Incorporate yoga into your routine, particularly poses like Child’s Pose, Forward Bend, or Legs-Up-the-Wall. These asanas (yogic postures) are grounding and help in inducing a state of calm on both the body and mind level. Avoid heavy, oily, or overly spicy foods which could increase internal heat and anxiety. Favor foods high in prana-vital energy—think fresh fruits like apples and pears, and vegetables like spinach and kale. Finally, indulge in Abhyanga, or self-massage with warm sesame oil before your bath or shower. This is not only detoxifying but can soothe your nervous system and promote a deeper sense of relaxation within the mind. Be patient with yourself, these practices take time to fully bring about a balance. If you continue to experience challenges, consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner could provide more insight tailored specifically for you.
