I am really struggling with this nasty cold and a persistent cough that just won’t go away. It all started last week when I thought I could just tough it out, but it escalated and now, I can’t even sleep! I’ve been drinking lots of warm teas, but I'm wondering, which fruit is good for cold and cough? I've heard different things like lemon and honey, but I’m not sure how effective they really are. My throat feels scratchy and my voice sounds kinda funny, and it gets worse at night. I tried eating oranges, but I'm unsure if that's even helping. I've read that bananas might be a bad idea when you're feeling under the weather, is that true? It’s difficult to focus on anything else when I feel this way, and I keep wondering which fruit is good for cold and cough! I need something that will give me a boost, ya know? I don’t want to rely on medication all the time. Should I be looking into something like berries or maybe even tamarind? Help!

For addressing cold and cough through Ayurvedic principles, certain fruits can indeed be beneficial. Pomegranates are excellent in this case; they are not just nutritious, but pomegranate juice also acts as a soothing agent for the throat, relieving inflammation and cough. You can take freshly extracted pomegranate juice—around half a cup once or twice a day, ideally between meals, to let the nutrients be absorbed effectively. Another great option from Ayurveda is bael fruit (Aegle marmelos) when ripe, it has properties known for soothing sore throats and clearing respiratory blockages.

Lemons can also be helpful due to their vitamin C content, known to bolster the immune system and help in fighting infections. You could mix lemon juice with a little warm water and honey; have it once in the morning to start your day. Honey is particularly good as it has anti-microbial properties, can ease sore throats, and also can suppress a night-time cough. Just ensure the water is not too hot, as that can degrade the honey’s beneficial enzymes.

Regarding oranges, they are rich in vitamin C, but consuming them in moderation is wise because the citric acid might irritate a sore throat. It can be more soothing if the throat irritation improves.

You can consume amla in the form of juice or raw if you can bear its tartness.

Incorporating pomegranate is another wise choice. Pomegranate is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce throat irritation and even helpful for easing cough. Drinking freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, without added sugars, can provide relief.

As for lemons and honey, they are indeed helpful. Lemon provides Vitamin C as well as supporting the immune system, while honey acts as a natural cough suppressant – it coats the throat, providing relief from that scratchy feeling.

While citrus fruits like oranges do offer Vitamin C, they could aggravate the throat further due to their acidic nature especially if consumed in excess. So, it’s better to consume them in moderation.
