Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

In Ayurveda, a persistent cough with blood in phlegm can be seen as an imbalance in the Kapha and Pitta doshas. The cough indicates a disturbance in the respiratory system, often linked to excess Kapha, which can manifest as mucus production. The presence of blood suggests that Pitta, the dosha associated with heat and inflammation, is also aggravated, possibly leading to irritation of the respiratory tract.

The fact that the cough persists over a long period suggests a chronic imbalance that may be linked to lifestyle factors or environmental triggers. The initial relief from vasarishta syrup indicates that the treatment began to correct the imbalance, but the return of symptoms suggests that the underlying causes need further attention.

Ayurveda views this as a systemic issue where both doshas are out of balance, affecting the respiratory system’s function and integrity. This may be influenced by diet, stress, or environmental factors, which need to be addressed holistically.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How would you describe the severity of the cough: mild, moderate, severe, or very severe? 2. Have there been any other symptoms accompanying the cough, such as fever, chest pain, or shortness of breath? 3. Are there any lifestyle factors that might be contributing to the cough, such as smoking, exposure to dust or pollution, or allergies? 4. Has there been any pattern in the timing of the cough, such as worsening at certain times of the day or night? 5. How has her digestion been? Any issues with appetite, bloating, or bowel movements? 6. What is her daily routine like, including diet and stress levels? 7. Has she tried any other treatments or remedies besides vasarishta syrup?

Your detailed responses will help in formulating a more targeted Ayurvedic approach to restoring balance and health.

1. They are very severe. 2. Sometimes she has chest pain during night. 3. We live near a chemical plant. 4. She coughs when she is mostly relaxed, but coughs often show up when she just woke up, is eating, or during sleeping. 5. Her digestion is very good, no issue with appetite, bloating or bowel movements. 6. Morning (Wake-up to Noon): she wakes up around 3:30-04:00 A.M., Eats breakfast around 6:30, she takes levodopa with her meal, has her lunch around 13:00, takes levodopa with that too. She mostly tries to be on her feet till noon, like house chores and such She doesnt eat anything in the evening, just takes her medicine and vasarishta and has her dinner around 8:00 with medicine and melatonin and sleeps around 9:30. Her activity period is mostly in the moring- noon period. 7. She hasnt tried any other treatment.
