Doctors' responses
Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.
The persistent cough after eating, along with throat itchiness, suggests an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which is associated with mucus production and heaviness. Eating can stimulate Kapha, especially if the digestive fire (Agni) is weak, leading to an accumulation of mucus in the throat and chest area. This can cause the itchiness and the chesty feeling you are experiencing.
The cough could also be linked to a Pitta imbalance if you are consuming foods that are spicy or acidic, as this can increase heat and irritation in the throat and digestive tract. Additionally, drinking coffee, which is heating and stimulating, might aggravate Pitta, contributing to the throat itchiness.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, these symptoms are interconnected and indicate a systemic imbalance rather than isolated issues. Weak digestion or irregular Agni can lead to the formation of Ama (toxins), which can aggravate both Kapha and Pitta, causing respiratory discomfort and throat irritation.
