Doctors' responses

Your symptoms suggest the presence of ‘tonsil stones’ or tonsilliths, which can occur when debris, like mucus, food particles, and bacteria, become trapped in the tonsils and calcify. The chronic cough might be aggravated by this irritation. Let’s look at some Ayurvedic insights to address this:

Firstly, understanding your dosha imbalance could be beneficial. Your situation might reflect an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which governs mucous and respiratory systems.

Start by incorporating gargling with warm water mixed with turmeric and salt. This should be done două ce a day - morning and evening. Turmeric has antibacterial properties, which might help in reducing the inflammation, and salt can work as an antiseptic.

Dietary Adjustments: Try to avoid cold, heavy, and oily foods that might exacerbate Kapha imbalances. Focus on warm, cooked meals with spices like ginger, black pepper and cumin to stimulate digestion and clear excess mucus. Eating light, fresh meals can be essential in supporting agni, your digestive fire, which affects overall balance.

Practicing Nasya, applying a few drops of warm sesame oil or Anu tailam in your nostrils can help clear sinuses and balance Kapha dosha, thereby reducing post-nasal drip that could be affecting your throat.

Triphala, a classical Ayurvedic preparation, can help detoxify your system. You may take 1 teaspoon with warm water at bedtime for sustained detoxification. Ensure proper hydration as dehydration thickens mucus, making symptoms worse.

Pranayama, especially Kapalbhati, can support respiratory health and clear mucus accumulations by stimulating the subtle channels of the body. Aim for 10-15 minutes daily, preferably in the morning.

If your symptoms persist or if the tonsils become severely inflamed or painful, it’s critical to seek medical evaluation to rule out any infections or conditions that might require immediate attention. Rapidly worsening symptoms may require more immediate intervention from a healthcare professional.
