Advice on Managing Flu Symptoms with Ayurvedic Remedies - #50433

Client_a565d7

My friend is a 40 year old male, has a Vata constitution and is currently having cough, fever, and symptoms of flu. His location is in Portugal, where we are in the winter time. He has a mostly dry cough but sometime coughs up phlegm of yellow/green color. A bit of sweating at night, and occasional low fever. He has Trikatu and Sitopaladi churna with him. Would it be better to take only one of these or to take them both? Or would that be too aggravating for Pitta? Should he take either of these before, during, or after meals? And should he take these with ghee, honey, warm water, or something else ? Dhanyavad!

How long has your friend been experiencing these flu symptoms?:

- Less than 1 week

What is the severity of his cough?:

- Moderate, frequent

Has he experienced any digestive issues recently?:

- Occasional bloating

Both Trikatu and Sitopaladi Churna are useful, but they act differently, so choosing depends on your friend’s symptoms and constitution. Since your friend has dry cough with occasional yellow/green phlegm, mild fever, and Vata constitution, Sitopaladi Churna is gentler and more suitable. Trikatu can be used in small amounts if digestion feels heavy or phlegm is thick, but not daily in winter with fever, as it may aggravate Pitta.

Take both together as they complement each other very well in this phase and will not aggravate Pitta significantly at standard dose. ✓Dosage & timing Sitopaladi Churna – 3 gm (≈1 level tsp) + 1 tsp pure honey, 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, bedtime) Trikatu Churna – 500 mg–1 gm (≈¼–½ tsp) + 1 tsp honey, twice a day (morning + afternoon) ✓Best way to take With honey – always (soothes throat, balances heating nature of Trikatu, anti-Kapha) After light meals or between meals – never completely empty stomach (Trikatu can irritate if no food) Warm water sip after dose if needed ✓Additional quick support Steam inhalation 2×/day (plain warm water + pinch rock salt or tulsi) Keep chest & throat warm (wool scarf) Warm soups (moong dal + ginger + little ghee) No cold drinks/food, no dairy at night Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma
