I understand your situation — at 79, even after such disciplined lifestyle, when knees still feel stiff, heavy, and burning, it can feel discouraging. You have taken very good care of your body, and that effort is valuable. But from an Ayurvedic perspective, what you are experiencing now is a chronic stage of Sandhivata (osteoarthritis) with vata + mild pitta involvement (that’s why stiffness + dryness + burning both are present). Also, bow legs indicate structural degeneration over time — so treatment now should focus on nourishment + lubrication + gentle detox, not just home remedies. Correct your morning routine add 1 tsp cow ghee in warm water in morning → helps lubrication Internal medicines 1)maharasnadi kashayam – 15 ml + equal warm water, twice daily before food 2)yogaraj guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food 3dashmoolarishtam – 15 ml after meals with equal water If possible, best results come with Panchakarma therapies like: Janu basti Patra pinda sweda These directly nourish the knee joint. Since your condition involves age factor + structural change (bow legs), treatment needs to be carefully adjusted to your digestion, strength, and response. If you’d like, you can book a consultation — I will customize exact dosage, diet, and therapies step-by-step for you so that you get maximum relief safely.

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Osteoarthritis, characterized by stiffness, heaviness, and burning sensations in the knees, is often associated with an imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas. Vata dosha, responsible for movement and dryness, can lead to joint stiffness and degeneration when aggravated. The burning sensation you experience may be a result of Pitta dosha, which governs heat and inflammation in the body.

Your symptoms of stiffness and heaviness indicate a possible accumulation of ama (toxins) in the joints, which can result from impaired digestion or metabolic processes. The bow legs could be a structural change due to long-term wear and tear on the joints.

Ayurveda views these symptoms not as isolated issues but as part of a systemic imbalance, likely linked to your digestive health and lifestyle habits. Your routine of pranayama, knee exercises, and a healthy diet is beneficial, yet additional personalized adjustments may be needed to balance the doshas and address ama.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible:

1. How long have you been experiencing stiffness and heaviness in your knees? 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the severity of your knee pain? 3. Have you noticed any specific activities that trigger or worsen your knee symptoms? 4. Do you experience any digestive issues such as bloating, gas, or irregular bowel movements? 5. How is your sleep quality, and do you feel rested upon waking? 6. Have you tried any other Ayurvedic treatments or therapies for your condition? 7. Do you notice any changes in your symptoms with weather changes or during specific times of the day?
