In Ayurveda, knee “cushion” refers to Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue) + Shleshaka Kapha (lubricating fluid of joints). When this dries or degenerates (often due to aggravated Vata dosha), pain, stiffness, and cartilage wear begin. True “regrowth” is limited in severe damage, but you can strongly support cartilage protection, lubrication, and regeneration of joint function. Ayurvedic approach for knee cushioning & joint protection: 1. Internal nourishment (Asthi & Majja support) Ashwagandha – strengthens muscles and supports joint stability Shallaki (Boswellia serrata) – reduces inflammation and protects cartilage Guggulu preparations (Yogaraj Guggulu / Kaishore Guggulu) – detoxifies joints and improves mobility Amla + milk – nourishes tissues and supports regeneration 2. External lubrication therapy Abhyanga (oil massage daily) with: Mahanarayana Taila Dhanwantharam Taila Helps reduce dryness and improves joint “cushioning feel” 3. Panchakarma support (if chronic) Basti (medicated enema therapy) is the most powerful Ayurvedic treatment for knee degeneration and Vata imbalance. 4. Diet for cartilage protection Warm, soft foods (khichdi, soups) Sesame seeds, ghee, milk Avoid: cold drinks, excess fasting, dry snacks, refined food 5. Lifestyle correction Gentle yoga: Vajrasana, Tadasana, gentle knee bends Avoid squatting, jumping, stair overuse if painful Maintain healthy weight (very important for knee survival) Key Ayurvedic truth: Ayurveda does not promise instant cartilage regrowth, but it can significantly slow degeneration, improve lubrication, reduce pain, and restore functional mobility—often delaying or avoiding knee replacement when started early.
